Story
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Story
I return home to our beautiful house on a chilly winter evening expecting to find my handsome husband Richard waiting for me by the fire. We’re still so in love, and he always takes care of me. He usually comes straight back from work. But tonight, our antique clock ticks on through the dark evening, with no sign of him. Then a knock at the door shatters my perfect life. A 12-year-old-girl, Alice from the village, has been found unconscious in the field behind our house. They say she was last seen getting into Richard’s car.

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

She thought they had the perfect marriage....
Tamra never dreamed she would marry someone like Mike Mitchell: handsome, rich, a wonderful husband...until she finds out that Mike is having an affair. And she was prepared to carry the secret to her grave.
Not anymore.
To make matters worse, Mike's daughter Madison has come to visit for a few days, and Madison doesn't like Tamra. Well, that's too bad, because Tamra doesn't have time to argue. She's too busy ruining Mike's life while remaining, on the surface at least, the perfect, loyal wife.
But when Tamra's plan spirals out of control, she finds that things are not what they seem.
And now, it's too late.

It was okay but...
I asked myself several times if I wanted to continue listening as my empathy for the main character grew weak and I almost didn’t can if she was the one left holding the bag. She presented with the emotional ups and downs of an individual that may be struggling with borderline personality disorder. The plot did weave and kept me guessing which what was really what forced me to continue.

Fluff
Okay just a pretty light piece of literature. Not a harlequin romance but kind of a watered down version. Not a lot of content and a pretty weak story line. Kind of wish I had taken the time to read the reviews before purchasing....

Quick little entertaining story but terrible narration
I finished the book in two days, entertaining story, main character is kind of crazy, good twists and turns though, keeps you guessing. I really hated the performance though of the voice actress. She just seems like the worst actress ever and all the characters sounded exactly the same, but then for a teenager she overreacted, it was pretty cringey. But I wanted to hear the story so I pressed on.

not very good
I had trouble hearing the narrator. she spoke too softly in parts and then too loud in others. I hot sick of the leading characters whining. by the end, I had had enough. I was anxious for it to end.

Main Character was Interesting At First
The Loyal Wife was somewhat of a disappointing psychological thriller overall, but I still think it was worth the listen. The voice of the main character was really interesting. She comes across as a ditzy, trashy, yet- 'don't mess with me' type of woman who's naïve to many things but street smart. I thought the narrator really did well- but the problem was, the cool voice and character didn't match the end of the book.
The ending sort of made the whole plot fall apart, and it was boring and non climactic.
Typical story- wife marries rich husband, husband is cheating, wife tries to find out information, etc. There are a couple twists as in the 'I know what you did last summer' theme.. but the end was just.. not good.
The narrator saved this one for me.

Glad I read Barelli's other books first
If I'd started my Natalie Barelli obsession with this novel, it would have died on the vine. While, very like her other 4 thrillers, the story features deeply-flawed characters and an unreliable narrator, this one turns rapidly ludicrous.
I'm still uncertain of Barelli's provenance, because 4 of the books take place in the US, and one in England, but her website says she "lives in Australia". In any case, this novel is set in North Carolina, yet filled with clumsy Briticisms (candidature, journo, CCTV, to name a few) and read by an English actress using a (very convincing) Midwestern American accent.
I suspect this book languished in a file folder somewhere for years until Barelli's success. It doesn't accurately reflect the 2018 situation in NC, regarding abortion access, journalistic integrity and reach, HIPAA laws, and a host of other things that come across as nonsense. #Forgiven

Standard Psych Thriller
By process of elimination you can figure out "Who done it" way before the end. The book kept me entertained and I enjoyed it. Shakespeare, it is not, of course.

Don’t waste your credit
I had listened to other books by this author and they kept my interest (never outstanding but enjoyable and easy listens). This one I could not even finish. The narration was slow (I did listen to a sample and stupidly picked it anyway with hopes it would get better). The story was a bit all over the place. I did not like the main character at all. Bottom line like so many other reviewers mentioned....don’t bother.
