Newlyweds Alice and Jake are a picture-perfect couple. Alice, once a singer in a well-known rock band, is now a successful lawyer. Jake is a partner in an up-and-coming psychology practice. Their life together holds endless possibilities. After receiving an enticing wedding gift from one of Alice's prominent clients, they decide to join an exclusive and mysterious group known only as the Pact.

The goal of the Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense: Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. Never mention the Pact to anyone. Alice and Jake are initially seduced by the glamorous parties, the sense of community, their widening social circle of like-minded couples. And then one of them breaks the rules. The young lovers are about to discover that for adherents to the Pact, membership, like marriage, is for life. And the Pact will go to any lengths to enforce that rule. For Jake and Alice, the marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.

Wow - what a ride through the mesmerizing story that completely makes one think of their own marriage and how they would manage.

The stats made it so much more meaningful as well.

I am frequently engaging in books that fall into pretty gruesome categorizations. Certainly, a lot of the things that the average reader has difficulty witnessing I often find myself quite literally laughing through.

The horror genre tends to be my go-to, I also enjoy a healthy dose of sci-fi and thrillers. In fact I often put on horror movies to help me go to sleep... so recognize that when I say this book is incredibly disturbing it is not based on some sort of fantastical albeit unlikely set of unreal stimuli.

I was disturbed by the thought process, that the horrific imaginings found within are quite possible. at the end of the day I can sleep no problem while bearing witness to things that I just know do not exist in our reality.. I wish I could say that the things I experienced in the story could never happen.

That said, do not mistake my review as one of a negative nature, this is excellent writing and storytelling despite the fact that I may never sleep well again.

I have read two of Ms Richmond's books to date, and the one consistent thing I can say is that they held me gripped on tight and compelled me not to let go until I was done.

I may have to try another one, and pray that I won't become more afraid of humanity after I am through!

Disturbing

I held my breath during most of this novel, it is fast paced and exhilarating. The narrator is excellent! He takes you along this journey using his skill to give every character its own voice.

The Marriage Pact is a must read or listen.

Heart Stopping Thriller

Well-written story, interesting characters and lots of suspense. Lots of unexpected twists. Great narration. Recommended if you like thrillers.

Finished this book in record time. Enjoyed it very much but did find some discrepancies.. nonetheless less it was a very engaging story

Married to this book

I got this book as a freebie from the Plus Category. It is not a book I would normally have picked. I found it interesting, but at times some of the situations were very far fetched. The book seemed to drag in the last quarter and then it ended rather abruptly.

I really enjoyed Tom Taylorson as the narrator.

If you are looking for a free book from the Plus Category, then go ahead and order it.

Reading the reviews on this one I thought I’d take a chance. But I am so glad I did. The narrator does a fantastic job. It’s engaging and thought provoking.
My only issue with the book is that Alice’s childhood is brought up multiple times, but is never investigated, and you want more insight.
Thought it was extremely well done.

I had high expectations for this book, and it did not disappoint. I was completely into the book. The narrator did an excellent job. I highly recommend it.
