Publisher's Summary

Deciphering an ancient alchemy book is more difficult than Zoe Faust bargained for. She'd much rather be gardening and exploring her new hometown of Portland, Oregon - but time is running out for living gargoyle Dorian Robert-Houdin. If Zoe isn't able to unlock an unusual alchemy book's secrets soon, the French gargoyle will remain awake but trapped in stone forever.

When Zoe gives herself a rare night out to attend a classic magic show, she realizes the stage magicians are much more than they seem. A murder at the theater leads back to a string of unsolved robberies and murders in Portland's past - and a mystery far more personal than Zoe and Dorian ever imagined.

Love the style

I really enjoyed listening to these works and Julia Motyka is quiet and understated without losing any of the la vie the life of the story. I was not sure what to expect but I have one gripe as a BlackIndigenous Woman I found it trifling to use the name Tobias as the ex-slave but alas I loved the story a tonne. It is smoothly written no hiccups and stays fun yet not brute and the gargoyle is a riot. I truly think no matter your reading preference this will surely make you want try new things to read.
Merci

Interesting listen

What made the experience of listening to this book the most enjoyable?

The narrator. She is absolutely fantastic. Easily brought Zoey and Dorian to life

What did you like best about this story?

The character development is great in this novel, and thou Im tired of Zoey trying to find a cure for Dorian and almost killing herself I find myself compelled to continue to listen, loving the little gargole.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked it when Zoey and Brixton were talking with the Magicians.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh a few times.

The narrator Julia Motyka is amazing, she does very well voicing the different charaters and I find her soothing.

enjoyable

Fun and lighthearted story. Some information is repeated over and over but still a fun listen.

Wonderful escapism

Great characters in a well told piece of fictitious escapism. Good performance, I especially liked the gargoyle French chef!!
