Definitely a young adult novel. Ceony is smitten with her tutor, cramming for finals, and still finds time to pursue a murderous arch-villain, all the while learning more about her new abilities.

There are believable consequences to the protagonist's actions, and the author has finally revealed the consistency to her system of magic. So points granted.

This series continues, but with a different protagonist, so I may not pursue.

The trilogy of the magician series by Charlie N. Holmberg is one of adventure and intrigue. Best fantasy novel about magic I have read in a long while.
