Publisher's Summary

The inspiring, instructive, and ultimately triumphant memoir of a man who used hard work and a Master Plan to turn a life sentence into a second chance.

Growing up in a tough Washington, D.C., neighborhood, Chris Wilson was so afraid for his life he wouldn't leave the house without a gun. One night, defending himself, he killed a man. At 18, he was sentenced to life in prison with no hope of parole.

But what should have been the end of his story became the beginning. Deciding to make something of his life, Chris embarked on a journey of self-improvement - reading, working out, learning languages, even starting a business. He wrote his Master Plan: a list of all he expected to accomplish or acquire. He worked his plan every day for years, and in his mid-30s he did the impossible: he convinced a judge to reduce his sentence and became a free man. Today Chris is a successful social entrepreneur who employs returning citizens; a mentor; and a public speaker. He is the embodiment of second chances, and this is his unforgettable story.

Blew me away!

Chris blew me away with his story of growing up in tough circumstances. I laughed at times and I cried at times but mostly I was inspired by this young man’s story. He took hard times and made something good from them, which I cannot express how much I admire him for. He sets an example for all of us to follow! Thank you Chris!!!

The Fredrick Douglass biography of 2019

Dope!

We’re use to hearing from the streets in rap music, slam poetry or through film. Chris has given the streets a literary voice.

We read the Fredrick Douglass biography to understand the plight of enslaved Africans in America.

The Masterplan provides the same insight to black youth in America.

Thanks for this jewel.

Nothing short of miraculous!

This is a story of triumph! The things Chris shares about himself have the power to change so many lives. His is the perfect example of what happens when a person truly takes on their lives. The telling of the story will make you rethink our current system. He humanizes the incarcerated and casts off the stigma of having been convicted of murder to stand as an example of what is possible.

You will laugh, cry and think! You will rethink your views on the prison system. You can't listen to this story and not be changed by it.

Engrossing and Inspiring

I want and need to do more in my community. I am ashamed to have lived this long and made such little impact on others. Today starts a day beginning. Thank God for do overs.

so inspiring

my husband went to prison at 19 has been in prison for 18 years serving a life sentence and he didnt even murder anyone. it really speaks to the injustices of the MD judicial system and Baltimore City. so this book really hit home. so many similarities down to the lawyer that represented Mr. Wilson in the beginning. It was a page turner,or in this case an ear opener. I couldn't stop listening...at work,in my car,at the gym. Mr. Wilson is a true inspiration and we all could take some lessons from his Master Plan. I sent the book to my husband and with the way prison mail works I hope he gets it by the end of May. He reads ,studies and mentors other brothers. He is of course fighting his case. But I encourage him to develop ,cultivate and consistently follow his Master Plan.Thank Mr. Wilson for an incredible story.

Everyone can learn from this amazing story

I’ll admit I was skeptical when my book group recommended this book. All I can say now is that I want to meet this man and shake his hand. Maybe even give him a hug. I’ll reread this story. Probably a few more times.
