Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Francine Rivers returns to her romance roots with this unexpected and redemptive love story, a probing tale that reminds us that mercy can shape even the most broken among us into an imperfect yet stunning masterpiece.

A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has.

The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Like Roman, Grace is wrestling with ghosts and secrets of her own. After a disastrous marriage threw her life completely off course, she vowed never to let love steal her dreams again. But as she gets to know the enigmatic man behind the reputation, it's as if the jagged pieces of both of their pasts slowly begin to fit together...until something so unexpected happens that it changes the course of their relationship - and both their lives - forever.

An interesting, inspiring story

This book is inspiring, but is story/character driven, not message driven (there is a strong Christian message, but it is integral to the characters’ growth, not simply thrown in to fit the genre). The characters are complex and, while there is a (very good) romance, the story’s more about how they come to terms with their pasts than about how they fall in love. If you liked Rivers’ “The Atonement Child”, you will likely like “The Masterpiece”. If you don’t care for novels with a Christian theme, you will probably want to pass on this book.

The narrator spoke clearly, but I found her intonation a bit flat and I like more differentiation between the characters’ voices. That being said, I still listened to the book twice within two weeks, and I usually listen to books with a lot more action/adventure.

Awesome Entertainment.

Great storyline. Beautiful values. Interesting characters. Riveting plot. Accurately biblical theology.
Thank you for using your talent for Jesus.

Should mention faith in the synopsis.

This book has a strong Christian message, which I was not prepared for. If I had known that before getting 6 hours in, I would not have bought this title. However, the character development was well done.

Inspiring authentic fiction

Enjoyed this well crafted drama that had realistic characters with less than perfect lives finding grace and forgiveness in Jesus. #Audible1

!

I LOVE IT! Next to The Mark of the Lion Series this has to be my favorite Francine Rivers book to date. Absolutely amazing! The way in which Francine Rivers thoroughly develops her characters and how they interact with the world around them is so dynamic. As college student majoring in Studio Art drawing and painting, l I felt such strong identification with the two main Characters! Highly recommend this book.

Did not realize this was religious....

So, I found this on the top “fiction” list and it met my criteria... 13+ hours, top rated, fiction. I didn’t realize until halfway through the book this was not only a romance but a “come to Jesus” novel... up to that point I had simply thought being Christian was one of Grace’s character traits. The story itself was fine, it kept my interest, but I am not religious and was a bit alienated by the agenda of the book. I definitely wasn’t the right audience, and anyone seeking a religious or spiritual book should read!

Wanted to love it but....

Redeeming love is one of my all time favorites so I was so excited to find this book. I’m not sure if it’s he narrator or the writing but the relationship between Grace and Roman is extremely boring, their conversations are so slow and drawn out nothing to make you understand the attraction between the two. It’s confusing how the author time hops in no particular order. The voice the narrator gave Roman was difficult to follow, sometimes he sounded Hispanic sometimes black sometimes you just couldn’t tell.
It was a nice Christian story of coming to Jesus, but no where near as good as Redeeming love.

The Masterpiece may take time.

I am an avid Francine Rivers fan. I admit to waiting for this story to come out. While I liked the concept, I did not fall for the story or the characters as is customary in her novels. It is lighter and less in depth than a great many of her books. I do appreciate her diversity in characters and stories as how they relate. It does redeem itself near the end and pull at the heart strings which she does so well.

Far from a Masterpiece

Predictable story, with highly stereotypical characters. I stuck with it hoping that it would evolve but finally reached the point where I just wanted it to be over.
