Interesting message-I learned a lot!

I really learned a lot from this book. Don’t forget to access the supplemental materials on his website, they mention it in the beginning and can be easily missed. 😊 #audible1

Very informative

I’m 48 and a Health & Wellness Coach. I am physically fit and know how to eat… HOWEVER, during the pandemic my weight kept climbing NO MATTER WHAT I DID! I got my blood checked and my cortisol levels were dangerously high (explaining the weight gain). I went to do acupuncture to level my hormones (and started taking CBD)… now that everything is balanced I should lose the weight, right? Well, the body doesn’t work like that! I was getting extremely discouraged and down on myself (also no great for the ol stress hormone!), until I found this book! I started 3 days ago and am already down 4lbs ! I know it’s early days, but this book just clicked for me.

It’s easier to do than you might think. And the fact that it’s not calorie focussed or portion focussed makes it less intimidating. And the three phases makes it easier for my brain to handle - 21 days? I can do this for 21 days!! - Phase 1 -> 21 days, Phase 2 -> 28 days, Phase 3 (aka maintenance phase) is 6 weeks I think.

I have a huge sweet tooth and thought I’d be easily swayed, but not at all! My body is getting what it needs.

I’ll update more after Phase 1.

Plugging products

I was initially interested in this book and excited about the research it included. Until the author felt it necessary to plug a product, and a specific brand of that product, that was completely counter to some of the research it was supporting. This caused me to see the book and author as inauthentic and I lost interest in finishing the book. I will be returning this book.

Not just for those who want to lose weight!

If you could sum up The Microbiome Diet in three words, what would they be?

Heal Your Gut

What could Raphael Kellman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I haven't finished it yet, but I'm hoping he provides some specifics about choosing pro-biotics and any supplements he recommends for healing the gut. There's a lot out there and it's confusing. For example, some brands of probiotics may be useless if they are dead on arrival.

What about Tom Perkins’s performance did you like?

Everything. He's easy to listen to, doesn't act like he's talking to a 5 year old, and he has a great voice.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Your microbiome is your internal ecology. It's like a garden in your gut, and it will thrive on diversity.

Any additional comments?

I like the level of difficulty presented. It's easy to follow, yet I didn't feel impatient with it, like he was presenting the info to a small child. I'm not sure the micro-biome is EVERYTHING, but Kellman makes the case that the microbiome affects and mediates a myriad of processes in our bodies, and that it's important enough that I want to implement his suggestions for an even healthier me.

DIET

its a four letter word and this helps me think of it less as that. I have not tried the diet yet but it's on my to do list. I have already noticed that taking a probiotic is helpful for my weight just in a week. So I will be taking 7 weeks to see if the science is accurate for me personally.

not good

the science in the beginning is great but when it comes to the diet part he only gives you lists of foods no real meal plan. never mentions any whole foods either just sides and spices.

I HAVE THE HARD COPY

The audio book is very informative but I was able to gain more information with the hard copy. I am old school that way. I prefer to highlight and make notes on me pages.

Informative

Very informative and changed my way of viewing food and the body. I loved how he delved into the different types of gut microbes with their individual benefits and life span. I've made some positive permanent life changes after listening to his book. Definitely worth the time to listen.

Great read!

We all knew good food could heal but probably didn’t realize to the extent that “bad” food can hurt. Some chapters are a little redundant but you can always fast forward.
