Publisher's Summary

Her dad's job is with the dead...and he's bringing his work home with him.

Once again, 17-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad's career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she's a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems, so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father's alcoholism, she's got enough problems of her own.

But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley's door. The young woman's death wasn't the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer's next victim, Riley knows she'll have to help Hayden move on, too, but what if she can't let him go?

slow slow slow

main character has all these questions about her dad's drinking, her ghost friend, yet I'm almost done with the book and she still hasn't asked anyone. very slow, not worth the read!!!

A YA but Good!

I had been so disgusted because I could not find a good book. Reviewers often like a book, 5 star it, and I’ll get it only to be disappointed. Took a chance on this one and although certainly not an adult book, it was pretty darn good!

The Morticians Daughter is about a teenager who discovers she can see dead people. When she and her father relocate to another town for her fathers new job, she. Gets a visit from a murder victim. Who begs for help in catching her killer. Much more than just that it’s a good story with lots of twists and turns and relationship.

The narrator was very good. I recomend this for YA and adults who want a good lighthearted mystery.

Narrators Voice... ugh...

I am only a few chapters in and the book itself Is great but the Narrator has an ugly girl voice.. and she is reading a pretty girls part..lol I know harsh right. but her voice makes me picture Daria from MTV and the description of the characters is complete opposite...

Pretty good

The story line was pretty good, but I really hated the narrator. She made the main character seem like she was a bitchy punk. It was her tone and inflections.

Loved this story and all the characters !

I loved this story and the young heroine in this story. BUT the narrator was perhaps the weakest narrator I have heard. She just has no emotion between characters and it’s like yes ...... no........like she is just unable to read another line. But I would still listen guys because it’s a grand story!

So Good!

This is such a good book and I can't wait to start the next in the series. Riley is a strong young woman who tries so hard to juggle her special abilities, school, and home life. The characters she meets and befriends along the way like Kelsey, Hayden and Jacob will have your heart melting along with hers. This story has a great balance of mystery, drama and romance that kept me hooked from the beginning until the end.
