Publisher's Summary

If you hear it, it’s too late.

In the shadow of Mount Hood, 16-year-old Tennant is checking rabbit traps with her eight-year-old sister Sophie when the girls are suddenly overcome by a strange vibration rising out of the forest, building in intensity until it sounds like a deafening crescendo of screams. From out of nowhere, their father sweeps them up and drops them through a trapdoor into a storm cellar. But the sound only gets worse....

What the critics say

"This is a really entertaining thriller...like Michael Crichton (who might have written something very like this), Patterson and Barker keep ratcheting up the suspense and the sense of impending doom, until, by the end, we wish we could read faster just so we can find out what happens next.” (Booklist)

Awesome story

I struggle finishing books because they are poorly written or poorly recorded (in the case of audio books). This is my first James Patterson book and I absolutely loved it. The woman reading it was the best! Sure was able to do many different characters flawlessly. I finished this book quickly because I didn't want to stop listening.

Wow!

I thought he was kidding when he said it was his scariest book yet… I couldn’t stop listening…the garden, the house with earphones and then in the car. It was awesome and unpredictable.

Horror zombie???

When did Patterson start attempting to write horror/zombie flicks?!? Horribly written, goes in circles. They could have done so much better with the story line.

Ugggghhhh!

Waaaaay too long of a story; needed to address the cause of the noise sooner. Then could have expanded the details. Definitely NOT a James Patterson story. Either he's branching out into a new genre for him, or his name was added to sell the title. I love sci-fi/dystopian media, but this was not for me.

This could really happen!

I was a nervous wreck but wanted more. Controlling our minds, what we think , what we read, is happening now .

worst book ever

Patterson fans will be totally disappointed and sad. Compare Along came a spider to this.

Horrible

I love James Patterson when he actually writes the story. This clearly was not. Story was just blah, very sci fi-ish, and what a horrible ending. Going to return this one

Couldn’t wait for the next chapter

Interesting story that moves quickly. Good narrator. I know this isn’t the typical book by the author but I would highly recommend this book.
