Julia Packett has barely laid eyes on her daughter, Susan, since leaving her with her well-heeled in-laws following the loss of her husband in World War I. Now 37, Julia's lack of prospects hasn't dimmed her spirit or her appetite for life. What a delightful tale

This classic tale is beautifully crafted with unique characters. The narrator is perfect for the story. While I’m normally wary of narrators with “sweet” voices, in this instance she gives such a powerfully accurate voice to the main character, without being sickly sweet, it is just perfect.
