Publisher's Summary

In modern-day Belgium, the vampire Gon has kidnapped a ruthless murderer. Lukas Jaeger is a cunning sociopath, a monster in the guise of a man. Lonely and fascinated by his hostage's inhumanity, Gon strikes a deal with the seductive serial killer: his life story in exchange for the mortal's vile tales. So long as Gon is intrigued, his captive lives on.

As their Faustian bargain unfolds, the Oldest Living Vampire tells Jaeger of his rebirth in the icy steppes of Europe following the last glacial maximum, the creation of his first vampire companion, and their battle with the Elders of the Oombai, a burgeoning agricultural society....All the while, his thirst for the captive mortal's blood grows more and more irresistible.

Sexy, twisted and original

Narrator Ian M. Walker not only delivered the memoir of the first Vampire, but also the most original version of it I have heard in a long time. With his old skool narration style and my player set to 1.7x speed, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two audiobooks of this series. I really hope to hear the rest of it soon, as it ended leaving me hanging. Cliffhangers are much worse than male genitals being described. It took me a while to get used to the narrator, but once I got sucked into the plot I totally loved it, and I forgot about the narrators’ shortcomings. He has this growly whispering voice going on. He does not do a wide range of different voices, but I was still able to enjoy the tale and fall in love with Gon.

The author wrote a whole wheelbarrow full of how sexual practices were freely enjoyed by their tribe. It was never described in detail.

For example, “he climbed underneath the blankets with him to have pleasure” compared to “and then he pulled his cock out and stroked it, looking up and inviting him to come over and lie with him under the same blankets. He squeezed his cock one more time, a drop of pre-cum falls onto the cave floor, he bent down and licked it up without losing eye contact” The latter is the erotic example!

The author explained that Gon had a husband and a wife, and the whole setup made sense, I bought it! I was able to connect to Gon and experienced his turning to a vampire just as horrifying as him. I enjoyed how he discovered what his limitations were and how he coped. The world-building was OK, and I enjoyed listening to this story back 30 000 years ago. Usually, the authors write a few words about how old the vampires are, but the story plays out in the present.

I decided to listen to this audiobook, specifically because one of the reviewers stated it has a little too much homo-erotica for me and too many descriptions of the male genitals. Obviously, I was on that shit faster than any fly could hit a warm dropping. I was not as impressed as said fly. I listened to book one and book two of the series, as they are unfortunately the only books in the series available on audio.

I have to say the murder and rape of underage kids were the darkest content found in book 2, Gon feeds on killers, so it was like a mini-interview before he fed on the murderer. I did not hear any homo-erotic content, nor did I hear about any genitals, either male or female, described in any detail. Why do people lie in reviews? What do they get out of it? Are they truly getting any satisfaction, 5 years later after the fact, they could be dead by now? Point is, one-star ratings get as much interest from me as five stars. I also noted five-star ratings which are just as false and misleading, so why leave the ratings. It is to sell books. To do the author a favor?
