Publisher's Summary

Jeremy Thorn and his wife, Katherine, have just welcomed the newest member of their family to the world: Their beautiful son Damien. But as the boy grows, so does the terror surrounding him. Fatal accidents, suicides, and unexplained violence seem to follow the Thorns wherever they go - but why? And how can Damien have anything to do with the carnage and bloodshed? He is only a child. But Damien Thorn is like no child on Earth. He bears the mark of the beast. And his time is at hand.

This audiobook edition is narrated by Holly Palance, who starred in David Seltzer's The Omen in 1976.

Classic Horror

I was 5 years-old when this movie was released in theatres. I consequently never got to see it until it was available on VHS (remember those?) or shown on late-night television. Still, I can remember being frightened by the story.. it affected me as a teenager.. and it's still viscerally powerful (I am now in my fifties).
I didn’t find this book dated in the least.

Additionally, 'The Omen' in book form is more than nostalgic.. it's provocative. Yes, David Seltzer wrote this tale expressly intending it to be made into a Screenplay (usually a scenario that dooms a story to 'superficial' status), but it is a genuine novel - characters are more complex than a movie can portray, motivations are explored, and there are some deep nuances that Richard Donner couldn't fully examine in 111 minutes of running time.

It must be noted that the performance from Holly Palance is imperfect, but very good. She delivers the entire story with a whispery tone and far too slowly (Note: Speeding playback to 1.25X was largely corrective)
..but she reads emotively, with remarkable cadence/timbre and impressive voice-acting. Her narration is captivating.

It's simple math:
Quality production standards + entertaining plot + decent narration = worthwhile audiobook.

The uncomfortable (and genuinely creepy) occult subject matter makes this a great listen for horror fans. Sure, it takes some rejection of logic, but if you can do it, this product rates 9/10 stars. It's worth the Credit.

Good Book - ending could be better

The story is good, Interesting and keeps you guessing but it doesn’t have the best ending.
