Story
Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line.

Story
Eleven-year-old Willodeen adores creatures of all kinds, but her favorites are the most unlovable beasts in the land: strange beasts known as “screechers”. The villagers of Perchance call them pests, even monsters, but Willodeen believes the animals serve a vital role in the complicated web of nature. Lately, though, nature has seemed angry indeed. Perchance has been cursed with fires and mudslides, droughts and fevers, and even the annual migration of hummingbears, a source of local pride and income, has dwindled.

She does it again!
This is wonderful! Katherine Applegate’s wit, humor, and style shines through brightly! Bob is a loyal friend who does not consider himself a hero, but events cause his courage to turn into heroism. The wisdom of his street smarts makes him a no nonsense kind of dog! He talks about going to a dog park where all dogs are “equal opportunity playful. You sniff my rear, I sniff yours.” “You don’t see that with humans, obviously.”
You’ll enjoy it from start to finish!

Everything we hoped for!
Ivan was the FIRST chapter book my daughter and I read together, around 5 years ago. It is a story near and dear to both of our hearts, and always will be. When we heard about Bob, we were downright giddy! We talked about what we thought the plot would entail, whether or not Ivan would be in it, and more. We absolutely LOVED this book—it was everything we hoped it would be!! The plot is carefully thought out and flawlessly executed. The characters are beyond memorable—we feel like we know them. Listening on audible was a bonus, because the great Danny DeVito is quite possibly the greatest narrator of all time!!! This is now another favorite book, and I’m so thankful to get to share it with my daughter!
