TOO SHORT I WANT MORE

It is criminal that books book was condensed into 52 minutes, when it should have been a full novel!

Made me flinch

The worst kind of damsel in distress/Cinderella story. Spoiler alert!
He hires her to a big position, gives her a big fat cheque, and makes his move. So many holes…what is her training to get a job in design? If he hires her, how can he then kiss her when earlier he thought he couldn’t due to HR policy? Can you say workplace misconduct in the greatest degree? Promote her, have her in your debt, be her boss, and make your move. Made me flinch.

Yuck

It’s almost 2022… can we please stop writing this kind of mindless “damsel in distress” crap, where a woman is saved by a rich, attractive man who finds her quirky and sexy?! Ugh.

Cinderella story but without the romance

This story just lacks... anything. The plot: girl gets fired, girl meets CEO's son on elevator on the way out of the building and they get stuck there, girl tells boy that women come in many sizes, boy develops insta-attraction to girl, girl is un-fired and then hired to work in the top floor offices with a big signing bonus, which apparently includes the sexual advances of her new boss.

1970s style work place sexism exalted as a romance

Could this book be worse? Only if it were longer. A downtrodden, insightful and talented young woman, our protagonist is fired from her low level job in a large corporation. Trapped in the elevator with the new (she doesn’t recognize him) CEO, she schools him with her insightful observations to rebrand the lingerie company she recently worked for as of that morning. A fun start to a lighthearted romance. Ok. Then, it takes a turn into creepy, time worn tropes of male economic and social dominance in the workplace navigated with a woman’s sexuality. Why is he the creep? Because he tricked her into delivering a package to her favorite restaurant where he surprises her with his real identity; offers her a job with a signing bonus that would solve her immediate life problems; then kisses her passionately. Her passionate response makes this a good idea!?! Are his vast privileges economically and socially vs her vast vulnerabilities negated? Of course they are. Though brilliant, she is a slave to her hormones. (And, her vagina seems to be the portal to success). She takes the job. End of story. UGH!

Trite, offensive (spoiler alert)

The protagonist has a list of complaints she voices to the unbeknownst-to-her CEO about the work environment. Including sexual harassment. The big reveal scene; he offers her a bunch of cash and a new job, all while touch her suggestively. This is supposed to be "my prince!" and it ends up being entirely offensive. So disappointing. Couldn't even finish the book.

Short but great

This read was a bit short, but I loved it nonetheless. It’s a cute mini romance that makes you go awe 😊.

That package isn’t part of your delivery...

... he says when she nearly bumps his Johnson. And so begins a fun, flirty, and mouthy holiday novella between sexy Archer and plump, prickly Jules. I would pay for this as a full length (or at least 6 hr) book. I would pay for this if it had just a few more minutes to get to some naughty & nice holiday nooky. Alas, the only Fx are the F bombs; there’s a single kiss before the story fades out with the promise of sugar plum dreams true. Still, for a free listen, this was a saucy, sexy good time.

Cute!

The Package is a super cute and funny short story set at Christmastime. It is only 52 minutes in duration. My mom and I listened together while we were driving and she really enjoyed it too. Both narrators do a good job. This was included with my audible membership.

Enjoyable narration, but novella was a miss

This was a really quick forced proximity holiday novella. It had a lot of promise, but I didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters and the power imbalance was too great. It also felt gross that he offered her a job and cash advance and then kissed her. Just seems like a huge HR nightmare.

The narration was enjoyable though and Maxine Mitchell (who narrates the majority of this novella) and Teddy Hamilton were great.
