Publisher's Summary
This brooch saga begins July 14, 1789, the day French revolutionaries stormed the Bastille! And America’s ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson, comes to Sophia Orsini's rescue....
Sophia Orsini, a time-traveling Italian artist, believes she understands how the pearl brooch magic works, but when it abandons her in the middle of an 18th century Paris mob, she realizes she was wrong.
America’s ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson, comes to Sophia’s rescue, but that meeting leads her down a path she otherwise wouldn’t have chosen.
Kevin Fraser and his pregnant wife, JL, fly in his Cessna to enjoy a weekend at Mallory Plantation in Virginia, but wind shear turns Kevin's textbook landing into a disaster and the plane through a chain-link fence, injuring JL and sending her into premature labor.
Pete Parrino, VP of Global Security for MacKlenna Corporation, is in Florence on business when he stumbles upon Sophia Orsini’s art studio. Sophia is the love of Pete’s life, and he hasn’t seen or heard from her in 20 years. When he discovers she hasn’t returned from her annual two-week holiday, he breaks into her studio and finds evidence that she’s a time traveler.
When the clan discovers where she is, Pete, Matt Kelly, and Jack Mallory must decide how much of America’s history they’re willing to change in order to bring Sophia back to the future.

narrator may have ruined book...
the book itself seemed to run off in to tangents that seemed to only just fill pages without any contributions to the story. As far as the narrator...unfortunately the change in narrators was a mistake...it was very difficult to continue on with the book...seemed very robotic and accents continually changed for the characters so you where second guessing which character was speaking...at one moment Gabriel's accent was Italian and the next it a french accent...very frustrating

Not as good
I felt there was a lot of repetition of the story line, it moved slow, to much history and I had a REALLY negative time with the narrator. The characters I knew from other books had changed dramatically because of voice and how they said things. And It was as if the author was in a hurry to fill the pages. I have listened to the other books a few times but this one I had to skip through. Sorry it just didn’t compare.

Almost Unbearable Narration
I am still in the process of listening but had to write this. Let me start by saying that I love this series and have listened to all the previous books twice and I had been very excited for The Pearl Brooch to be released. There is a new narrator for this book and she is awful! The accents are terrible, the Scottish keeps slipping into British and the French is painful. It is really hard to listen too, I'm so disappointed. PLEASE bring back Teri Schnaubelt!

I have listened to all the Celtic Brooch books, and have loved them. Always look forward to a new one. However something is really wrong with this one. I am having a hard time listening to it. Between the whiny characters and the narrator it’s just not as enjoyable as the others.

Not the same...
I was disappointed in this book, 99% because of the narration. The narrator had a weird cadence, you could tell she was reading, and seemed like she was reading for the first time; taking pauses where there shouldn't be. It didn't flow like a performance like the other narrator in the previous books. Also, the various accents of the different characters were not nearly as good as the narrator of the previous 8 books. At many points the accents seemed forced and were distracting because they were so bad. Additionally, many words and names were horribly mispronounced. That said I am glad I didn't give up (though I did think about it). The story is good and I enjoyed it, though maybe not as much as the other books in the series. I do want to note though that it seemed odd that this book had a sudden religious note that the other books didn't have. It seemed weird that the characters that we've been following for 8 books, now in the 9th book suddenly talk about praying all the time.

No doubt best for long-time fans of the author
The Celtic Brooch is a complex tale not meant for those in a hurry. And while I've loved certain long audiobooks, I found this title to be too much. Too many preposterous scenarios, too many characters, too many weird accents in the narration, and just too darn long. All of this might have been endurable had the main characters grabbed my attention and support early in the book. But they didn't. Sophia is presented as brilliant, talented, multi-lingual, practical . . . but no where amongst the revelation of all these assets was there anything that really caused me to like her or route for her success. And by the time I gave up, I hadn't yet encountered any male protagonist I cared about at all. However, for those who have more patience than I do at present, there is engrossing historical detail and a deep immersion into the world of art. Other reviewers of the authors' nine novels in this series love her books and obviously had no trouble coming to care for her characters. I fully intend to give that author another try when my life is calmer and I can read one of her books at leisure. For now, though, this ninth volume, while ostensibly a standalone, failed to capture my attention quickly enough to justify a 23+hour commitment. I was gifted a copy of this audiobook from the narrator in exchange for an honest review, and I remain grateful for the 3 hours I gave it before abandoning ship.

Disappointed in narration
I have listened to all the books in the Broach series and have loved them all. Though I enjoyed The Pearl Broach, as far as the story was concerned. I’m sure the author had a good reason for changing narrators on the 9th book. There are many characters, nationalities, dialects and age groups that are represented in these books; it’s a complex read. I found the English narration, though clear, lacked a conversational cadence, the Scottish accents, which were at the heart of the books, were downright horrible. One character who grew up in New York, but lived in Virginia was spoken with a (not so good) southern drawl. It was hard to keep track of who was speaking, unless their name was mentioned, which I didn’t find to be the case in previous books. Regarding the story itself, I liked how the legend was developed more, and appreciated the American history elements immensely. I also loved getting caught up with the various family members and their kids. I look forward to future books, but hope the author either goes back to the original narrator, or finds someone better able to handle the complexity’s of the characters in her books.

Narration Ruins a Good Story
The narration is stiff and completely lacking in emotion. I am really struggling with this installment of The Celtic Brooch series and am considering asking for a refund. Will likely just buy the book to read in my voice. After loving every book in the series before this one, I don't think I will buy the next installment if the same narrator is used. Definitely bring back Teri Schnaubelt.

Narrator almost made me give up
I love the Brooch stories and enjoyed every other audio book version. This narrator makes the story so hard to listen to. Her delivery is stilted, her phrasing is odd and her accents are completely wrong. The voices she uses for the different characters make them almost unlikable people. I really liked the story and the early American history but the narrator really ruined this one for me.

I’ve enjoyed this series but reader for this book is stilted and not as animated as needed. I’ve had problems differentiating between narration and character script when female characters are speaking.
