Publisher's Summary
Historical romance novelist Kate Inskip needs a break. Divorced, overworked, and completely stressed out, her writing buddies decide to surprise her with exactly what she needs - a vacation on a remote island that boasts a rich history and a crumbling castle built by an 18th-century pirate.
It's the kind of story Kate can't possibly pass up, and it will allow her to turn her thoughts from the reality of today to the romance of the past. But things don't go according to plan. A long flight, lost luggage, and a missed connection leave Kate wishing she'd stayed home. A knife-wielding mugger is the last straw.
Too late to help, but just in time to enjoy the show, Jared Hawthorne catches a harried woman in the act of kicking the local thief into submission. As far as Jared is concerned, Kate is the most interesting tourist to arrive on Amethyst Island in a very long time. Kate, however, has already concluded that a month-long vacation on the island is about 30 days too long. Still, Jared Hawthorne is starting to look very familiar....

Pirate of her dreams
I loved the by play between these two. It was vulnerable but not an exposition of each others feelings that's so common nowadays. Instead we get to hear about them in their own words in a way that feels natural when you're just getting to know someone. David felt like an 9 year old. He wasn't pulled into their drama and he had a healthy, caring relationship with his father. The narrator did a good job with all the voices.

A think about fat people?
Good story, but I started to get the impression Jayne doesn’t like people with a higher than average BMI. We were clearly informed, often multiple times, when a character was over the chubby line. Enough that it felt like a thing. It was off putting.

boring, bad reader, and sexist
I think my review headline says it all. Either I've changed or Krentz, who used to be a go-to author for me, has. I gave up on this about 20 mins in.

Stressed out woman goes to island resort and meets man from her dreams and his cute kid. The story has good elements but never clicked.

If you like spoiled children this is your book
not one of my favorite books by this author. Hero was okay but heroine was annoying and childish. The hero's son was the best thing in this book.
Narrator was soooo monotone especially for the hero that they threw the whole pleasure of listening to a book off. couldn't wait for this book to be over.
Unfortunately the ending which I'm sure was supposed to be cute made the heroine seemed more of a spoiled child.

What a surprise......
Krentz has been spiraling downward since the end of the Arcane Society, first adding Amy MacFadden to narrate, we were spared that narration this book, and now with a steamy Nancy Drewlike plot (although even those were more imaginative then this). Since she cannot sink any lower, time for me to give up and move on.

1998 electronics and ideas
Overall it was an interesting book however it was very formulatic and there were no electronics on the island where anybody could use a cell phone or any Internet where anyone could write a book or call back to the mainland so I had issues.

Wonderful story, characters , a bit of paranormal
Loved it! Loved the narrator! Written as a contemporary story. Now, slightly older. I enjoyed it..

Narration is some of the worst I have heard.
It may not help that the dialogue seems pretty lame. But the narrator's horrible. I couldn't get past chapter 3
