Publisher's Summary
He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war.
Fate touches him one chill winter’s day when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker to protect himself from the cold. The old, worn uniform still has power as a symbol of hope, and with it he begins to weave his greatest tale, of a nation on the road to recovery.
This is the story of a lie that became the most powerful kind of truth. A timeless novel as urgently compelling as War Day or Alas, Babylon, David Brin’s The Postman is the dramatically moving saga of a man who rekindled the spirit of America through the power of a dream, from a modern master of science fiction.

If you’re a Fallout fan, this is for you!
This must have been a HUGE influence on the Fallout video game franchise! Don’t let the crappy film adaptation lead you to think this is anywhere as bad. If you’re a fan of dystopian fiction with good hearted characters, this is heartily recommended.

great story and sadly appropriate in 2022
Loved this bood. Read it back in late 80s and loved listening to it. A unique and well written dystopian novel, it will not disappoint. I love Brin and I realize this earlier novel was more succinct than later ones and I loved that. His later work on often rambles and gets repetitive, this moves along at a good pace and keeps you engaged.

If you loved the movie don’t listen to this book
The book has been rereleased in 2020. They added a strong anti conservatives narrative including adding “the big lie” as a reason for the downfall of society. I go to fiction to get away from real life, and I’m sick of the educated looking down on me. He literally says “educated vs ignorant”. I’ve worked as a plumber and in air conditioner repair repair. Let me tell you: plenty of educated people are ignorant. Most educated people wouldn’t last 5 minutes in The Postman universe. I’m also sick of out of touch celebrities and artists thinking I care about their opinion. I wish I could return my digital purchase.
