Publisher's Summary

From our earliest years, we develop an attachment style that follows us through life, replaying in our daily emotional landscape, our relationships, and how we feel about ourselves. And in the wake of a traumatic event - such as a car accident, severe illness, loss of a loved one, or experience of abuse - that attachment style can deeply influence what happens next.

In The Power of Attachment, Dr. Diane Poole Heller, a pioneer in attachment theory and trauma resolution, shows how overwhelming experiences can disrupt our most important connections - with the parts of ourselves within, with the physical world around us, and with others.

The good news is that we can restore and reconnect at all levels, regardless of our past.

Here, you'll learn key insights and practices to help you restore the broken connections caused by trauma; get embodied and grounded in your body; integrate the parts of yourself that feel wounded and fragmented; emerge from grief, fear, and powerlessness to regain strength, joy, and resiliency; and reclaim access to your inner resources and spiritual nature.

Sheeesh

Welll this book unlocked a whole new super power of mine “Disorganized Attachment” lol. I truly never understood why I felt the way I did with people but knew it was trauma based. This book gently helped me understand myself in relationship and what’s needed for me to succeed in a relationship.

Best self-help/relationship book ever!

Literally this book is Word for Word what I needed to hear about my childhood and those that I love around me. Some how each chapter was relevant to part of the relationships I am in. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to grow in understanding of why your are situational environment growing up is affecting you today and how to heal from wounds you may not of even realized you had from that point in your life.

What a Helpful and Compassionate Book!

My boyfriend had read this and recommended I do the same - I chose to listen to it instead, and am coming away with a far deeper understanding of attachment styles than I’d had before. As a client of IFS therapy and a woman who’s super interested in interpersonal relationships and healing old wounds while in relationship – and also as your textbook ambivalent attachment type partnered with a disorganized attachment type - I can say that this book is life-changing, if you’ll allow it to be. The exercises are super helpful and I’m sure I’ll be referring to both the audio version and the paperback copy again and again as I work to heal. Highly recommend!
