What is it that keeps us from asking for what we want? So often, the things that we want in our lives elude us for one very surprising (and deceptively simple) reason. We don't ask for them. From a higher salary... to a better bargain... to a little more help around the house, there are all sorts of desires that we harbor but never achieve, when the fact is, we haven't taken the most important step of all.

Story
A business parable about how to create a start-up that won't trap you when you want to sell it. According to John Warrillow, the number one mistake entrepreneurs make is to build a business that relies too heavily on them. Thus, when the time comes to sell, buyers aren't confident that the company-even if it's profitable-can stand on its own. To illustrate this, Warrillow introduces us to a fictional small business owner named Alex who is struggling to sell his advertising agency.

What techniques?
Anecdotes with mix personal experience, sport references and opinion.
No strategies, no depth (most segments are a few minutes long).
Forced myself to finish, unfortunately I did not find it motivational or inspirational. To be fair I expected it to be a book on leadership, which it is only in the sense that leadership is the theme of the book.

Lots of small empowering messages but over all fell flat. 'Fact' in the book threw me off "most people die at 9AM on Mondays, people are doing going to work"

If you enjoy listening to a narcissist buy this book
Doing my best to give this book the benefit of the doubt I took a break at the end of chapter 6. I am less than 5 minutes into chapter 7 and I’ve had enough of listening to this guy repeat over and over all the sports teams he’s hung out with, their success, the business success of executives, the words can’t, won’t, don’t and the CONSTANT I AND ME! There is no constructive or meaningful content in this book. Save yourself time, money and your audible credit and buy a coloring book. You have a lot more positive to gain from coloring in the lines instead of listening to this garble.

The message is good
The message is good with many good points. However, the reader is hard to keep up with and seems in a hurry where inflection and pause would allow the message to better resonate. This is probably more enjoyable in hardcover print.

Another Awesome Book!
Jon Gordon’s voice is like taking a Positive Vitamin. If I could package and sell how Jon inspires me in vitamin form, I’d be a millionaire.
He reminds me that my attitude and my perspective are completely dependent upon me.
Jon will give you tons of twitter and word swag fodder in this book with example after example of how to think, speak, and act.
A must read for anyone who wants to grow whether you consider yourself positive or not already.
