What the critics say

"A pit bull of a book. Once unleashed, this thriller...charges and attacks without mercy, shredding anyone in its path....A well-tuned plot, driving rhythm, intelligence and a touch of politics." ( Washington Post)

Bringing the Cartel to life

I went into this book completely blind and really enjoyed it. If you like action and a realistic plausible story, this is the book for you!

An epic story, well narrated!

This is my third book by the author, and I loved it. The story follows general historical timelines which forms the backdrop of this epic story. Excellent character development and the dialogue is great. The narration was fantastic and the various character's voices were perfectly done, in particular the Mexican characters. I would highly recommend this book if you like the genre.

Art Keller wouldn’t last a chapter in reality.

Other then that fact, Winslow spins a fun yarn. Fairly well researched for real world historical and political accuracy. I like that the novel hasn’t been cancelled or banned yet too. The narration and voice characterizations are very well done and not over-cooked for the reader’s vocal range. Get in the van for this one!

Awesome!!

I’ve listened to almost 100 books on Audible and this is the first one that’s moved me to write a review.

Amazing story that overlaps with the story in Narcos México.
Moving characters. Scintillating storyline. Great pacing and action. Most importantly, it’s deeply relevant.

I will listen to any story narrated by Ray Porter. I’d listen to him read the phone book.

Narcos Meets The Godfather

One of the best books I’ve read (listened to). This book is the best part of the Tv show mixed with the Godfather. The way this story jumps between characters is reminiscent of the a song of ice and fire series. Cannot recommend this book enough.

By far the best voice performance I have heard to date

Narrative style confusing

After about 1 hour of listening I realized this was not a good book for me. The first person real time narrative I found very irritating. The person reading sounded like he was continuously rushing to get the words out as fast as possible. I considered returning the book but was hopeful that I would eventually be able to keep up, but that was not the case.
