Story
In this culmination of his life's work, Peter A. Levine draws on his broad experience as a clinician, a student of comparative brain research, a stress scientist, and a keen observer of the naturalistic animal world to explain the nature and transformation of trauma in the body, brain and psyche. In an Unspoken Voice is based on the idea that trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder but rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness, and loss that can be healed by engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions.

Is our destiny written inside our very DNA? Richard Rudd suggests that humanity is on the verge of a major shift in consciousness rooted in a new understanding of how our genes operate. He introduces this fantastic possibility, showing how the "gene keys" are an inner language designed to transform our core beliefs about ourselves and raise us to a higher level of awareness.

Publisher's Summary
You can dissect and analyze your issues for decades, but nothing will actually resolve them and change your life like The Presence Process.
Author Michael Brown shows us how it's possible to experience awareness of the present moment without having to take the long, challenging path most of us usually take as we attempt to live in the "now".
We all long to be free of our discomfort and experience inner peace. However, the attempt to get rid of our discomfort is misguided. We're not broken and don't need to be "healed". Our difficulty is that our deeply suppressed emotional imprints from childhood distract us from an awareness of the present moment. Until this emotional charge from our past is integrated, our attempts to quiet our thoughts and access the peace, joy, and love that are bedrock to our being are of only limited success. Since presence is universal, it has the ability to manifest in our daily experience the very circumstances required for us to integrate the dysfunction that keeps us from experiencing the radiance of present moment awareness. We are each responsible for determining the quality of our personal experience, and The Presence Process guides us in taking responsibility for our emotional integration. It's a way to consciously "grow up".

Unlike anything else I’ve experienced.
This book really surprised me in its approach to attaining present moment awareness through meditation and understanding the concepts that allow us to view our lives in a less chaotic way. He defines “reacting” vs “responding” to life among many other clarifications that really helped and solidified my desire to not be so attached to my thoughts.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has explored meditation and mindfulness or not, with success or not. A step-by-step process that was very grounding and empowering. For those who have maybe relied on others too much for healing and are still struggling. A solid path, it’s changed me for sure and I’ll be reading/doing this again.

Not very happy
What would have made The Presence Process better?
The audio book is missing week 5 of the process, in the chapter list it plays week 4 as chapter 8, it then goes to chapter 9, which should be week 5, but it actually plays week 6, it's missing week 5.
Any additional comments?
See comments above, I'm not very happy, I've gotten to the critical part of the process and it's missing a whole week. I would like to have this situation fixed if possible.

Great work but narrated by someone on speed 😨
A great process by Michael brown but narrated by someone who should never give it a try again. Couldn't keep on listening, not relaxing at all, he just talks the book as quickly he can without a pause to let things sink in. Made me nervous at all times so really not what's meant to be doing. Read the book instead.

Missing week number 5?
As of Dec 2016- this version still missing week 5. As a practice that is meant to be guided weekly, I find this disappointing that it was overlooked and then not corrected despite previous comments here.
Otherwise, a month in I find the process rewarding and am inspired by the promise of the benefits.
The idea of becoming more present, getting better at feeling, and integrating feeling rather than distracting or escaping is just the right timing in my life. I assume the premise to be correct: that uninterested feeling is the cause of disfunction in our lives. And that harmony arises as emotions become integrated through felt sense.
As a bodyworker, specifically watsu, this resonates with me and what I experience in my work, both as a therapist and receiver : integrating feeling results in freedom.

Great book!!!!!
I originally purchased the Kindle book, noticed the reviews said that the audio book was missing a chapter and two were out of order, but it they must have fixed it recently, because I listened to those chapters while following the kindle (not as immersion reading inside the kindle) and they were all there!
Wish I had the audio version when I had first purchased the book! It would have helped with the resistance I had then.
Note: Changing the speed works best on Android devices vs Apple devices. Since I had already read the book more than once as a kindle the speed of this author didn't affect my experience with the book.
I must say this is the best book to integrate any childhood traumatic experiences!! It was recommended to me by someone who had done Ayahuasca and it was recommended to him where he did Ayahuasca for it's powerful integrative abilities.

I wish this was read by Michael Brown!
I so appreciate this book, the truths in it, the integrity of the process. I have to admit at the time of writing this review I haven't actually tried the process yet, but I intend to. I have done similar work in other contexts - and it works. I highly recommend this book for anyone on the spiritual or personal growth journey, or anyone just starting to "wake up". But but but but but I do soooooooo wish that Michael had read this himself. I'm perplexed as to why they chose a different reader. I'm guessing it's for the fancy english accent? I'm not sure. I find it a constant distraction to 'translate' the reader's voice to Michael's voice. It's not a bad read, don't get me wrong; it's a voice I can listen to, and I appreciate that David - according to Michael's introduction - has deep familiarity with the work. But I feel that everything Michael is saying about making this process available to all, not training "presence process teachers" etc etc... would have been better supported by Michael also reading his own book. To me his voice is fine, and would have been great to hear his book in his voice. But at the end of the day, it's a minor haggle; I'm grateful for this book, and it's a book better experienced through audio imo. Thank you!

Powerful way to release buried emotions
The Presence Process works! I used it and taught it to my brother and both of use were able to release charged emotions that were holding us back. This is not to say we are finished as this process continues until all suppressed emotions are integrated. Is it easy? No. It can bring up uncomfortable memories and feelings. Is it worth it? YES! You will be more integrated and less triggered every time you do it.
If I had to choose one book with the most potential for improving your quality of life this is it. Get the book. Follow the instructions. Free yourself.
