Publisher's Summary

The greatest joy and fulfillment are within your reach, but they require an enduring promise to the one - someone you might not expect. It's not your boss, spouse, children, or others. No, the ultimate commitment is the promise you make to yourself to discover your purpose and gifts and share them with the world.

Everyone has been hurt or negatively impacted by broken promises. Promise-breaking and a lack of integrity are symptomatic of the most chronic illness faced by society today. Even though many leadership courses and ethics programs tout integrity as a buzzword, few of us are really assessing our own values unless someone calls us out on a discrepancy.

But even when others don't catch on to the façade, when our values aren't in alignment with our actions and when our actions aren't consonant with our gifts and passions, we're left feeling isolated, drained, and depressed. No recognition or acceptance from others can fill the void in the same way as when you keep a promise to yourself and actually follow through on it.

The promise is the highest level of engagement we commit to in any experience. The promise is greater than a goal; it's a sacred commitment. It's complete dedication to identifying your signature moves - the unique talents you've been given - that, when developed and used to better others lives, make you a legendary leader.

What choices do you make when no one is watching?

How do you approach a decision that requires you to let either yourself or someone else down?

How do you stay committed to your values, even when the less-rewarding path is more convenient?

A renowned speaker and performer who has helped audiences worldwide appreciate what accountability really means, Jason Hewlett shares his program for self-discovery and taking ownership of your gifts in The Promise to the One. His unique three-step method "identify, clarify, magnify" will enable you to pinpoint your strengths, shape them into an identity to which you commit, and develop them so that they can improve others’ lives as well as your own.

Filled with Jason’s signature wit and vulnerability as well as actionable exercises, this book will help you refine your character and reach your dreams through the power of kept promises.

Start your journey to living a life of promise-making and keeping…beginning with The Promise to the One

Wish i had had this book 25 years ago!

Jason Hewlett,

Through the use of personal stories Jason Hewlitt shows how promises we make to ourselves are critical to keep life moving forward. Hewlitt illustrates the principles with stories from his personal life. He shares his personal highs and his weaknessses and lows. The sharing from across the spectrum adds to the credibility of the principles. I was sorry when it was over - I will listen to it again.

The Humble-brag to the one

Oh my goodness. I tried...honestly, I tried. The authors whole premise for the book is to elaborate on all his talents, all his good deeds, all his blessings and all his wonderful opportunities
From the very intro I sensed this humble-brag about being the best person ever because he cleaned up after his dog. Then it goes into his talents of dancing, singing, performing, acting, entertaining, athleticism, popularity and so on. 99% of people will not relate to his scenarios of life. Turning down million dollar contracts or giving up first class seats. Being gifted and talented in multiple arts and being praised by producers, teachers, neighbors and such is solely centered on his own wonderful self. Then the stories of how wonderful of a husband everyone thinks he is because of a social media post...obviously written to gain attention and appreciation from others. Then his coaching that proved he was such a great person followed by his amazing generosity to shovel snow for neighbors that always goes unrewarded...until he wrote this book to reveal that it is him doing all these wonderous thing.
It honestly feels like he wanted to comprise a book about how wonderful he is as a human being because he hasn't received enough attention from others for any of his actions. But he did have one hardship which was renting a home from his Grandma in Park City Utah. Oh the plight, oh the suffering, oh the agony.
Making promises and sticking to them is absolutely crucial for your confidence and the trust of others. These are important qualities to have in families, work, friends and really any relationship. Listening to this book will not bring you closer to making and keeping promises to yourself though. I would recommend an introspection into Matt 6:1

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hearing Jason tell his own story.

I have a better awareness to the things I do in my daily life and how it is not attributing to my promise. Thank you for writing and sharing your story.

Highly recommended!

Entertaining and thought provoking

This was a great book that helped me reflect on my own life and habits. The author talks about some of his professional comedic acts in the book. I had a chance to look at them on YouTube after the fact. They are amazing and so awesome. This was a great book.

What to do before goal setting.

So well done and inspiring. It makes all the other motivational books I’ve read make more sense—It’s what to do before goals.

Game changer for all the stuff that actually matters

This book has reframed everything from interactions with my wife and kids to the garbage on the floor on my truck. Little things repeat it over and over again compound and when you begin to keep the promises you make little by little everything shifts. This book was the catalyst for me to do just that.

Every chapter is great!

Jason Hewlett really makes you think about different aspect of your life (family/work/self). My favorite chapter was 6 kindness. Wow - kindness in kids sports and teaching a team way beyond the normal way! The whole book was fantastic! I hope readers will be able to see Him in person! He’s an excellent keynote speaker!
