À propos de cet audio

The science of personality theory has advanced dramatically in recent years clearing the way for this useful and edifying speculation about the inner workings of horrific serial killers. Applying personality theory to more than a dozen of the most notorious serial killers in modern history, the mystery surrounding their crimes begins to unravel. What drives them to commit horrific crimes? How does sexual desire fit into their motivation? Why do some stop killing while others escalate? What are the different types of serial killers based on personality theory?

Contains mature themes.

Great information, good presentation. I like the rigorous explanation of the methodology used before diving into the analysis of each subject. i hope Dr. Grande writes another similar book on a further group of killers, perhaps focusing exclusively on sexual sadists.

Great information, novel presentation.

Todd Grande suggests using a well-conceived and well-supported paradigm for understanding the very worst elements of society: namely applying the "McCrae/Costa Five-Factor Model" of personality theory to a list of ten enigmatic antisocial figures.
The book is thought-provoking but overly "in the weeds".. only mental health professionals could hope to truly grasp what Dr. Grande is proposing.

As to presentation: Charles Constant can't be expected to elevate a book of this type.. but certainly doesn't help the situation with a mechanical, pedantic delivery. Tantor Audio Inc. cast this project "adequately" - with a professional but notably unspectacular reader.

I rate this clinical assessment of the Serial Killer phenomenon 3.5/10-stars. I can not recommend it based upon:
1. No general audience has any hope of getting *anything* out of this apparent PhD. thesis.
2. The recorded format is all wrong for this kind of work. Grande's use of heavily structured, clinically robust theoretical models to back up his posits (following an outline punctiliously) is better suited to a course syllabus than an audiobook. If you are dead set on examining the author's insights, stick to a text version of the book.

Bottom Line: I am happy to have listened to 'The Psychology of Notorious Serial Killers' - it proposes a cerebral and thoughtful framework for understanding these monsters - but only as a 'Plus' selection. If I had paid a Credit for this, I would be furious with myself.

ATTN PRODUCERS: The inclusion of an Appended PDF listing Dr. Grande's structure proposal is actually essential to making this audiobook even remotely consumable. You should either do that or just withdraw this unlistenable recording from the market.

Admirable Effort - Too Academic
