Publisher's Summary
The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs is a classic work featuring clear and simple instructions on how to be content as a Christian. Burroughs will teach you that contentment lies in subtraction, not addition; that the workings of Christianity are nothing like what you thought them to be; and that once you have learned the way from Christ's word, you will be able to attain contentment as you never before imagined.

Best Christian book of my entire life. Saved 40 years.
Superb insight. Could be considered part of the latter rain promised to Believers at the end times . Revival under affliction. Knowing God deeply can not happen apart from suffering.

critical book for all Christians
I read it on Kindle the first time, and the 1651 language is slow going, but virtually every sentence is pure gold for the believer. Listening to it on audio book was even better. Derek's British accent is a perfect fit and adds a pleasant nuance. His reading is excellent, and I got even more out of the book listening to it. I look forward to going through it many more times in the coming years.
Discontentedness is at an all time high in our modern era, and Christians are struggling with it as much as secular folks. This book provides a solid theological set of reasons why that occurs, and the solutions. It is rock solid doctrinally, and inspires an honest and critical look inward at our true motivations and thought processes. You will be challenged.

I will come back to this book OFTEN!
I loved listening to this book because I was able to listen as I was cooking, cleaning, taking care of my 3 babies and husband... when I tend to "murmer" the most in discontentment- truth spoken in this book caused contentment in my soul. As a homeschool mom, pastors wife, and missionary we face a lot of trials, and I needed every one of these words and am so thankful this book has been preserved so I may listen to it 100's of years later.

Dated, but true
The language is the only reason this isn't getting 5 stars - it was sometimes hard to follow and had portions where I felt it wandered with little direction. Otherwise, I think the message is fantastic and something every person, of religious values or not, can get something out of it. Contentment is a hard emotion and reaction to seize control of, but I think Burroughs captures the topic with great accuracy and useful instruction.

A True Treasure
A very helpful book for those who seek to understand this wonderful doctrine. This book is pleasant to listen, has many helpful illustrations for grasping this topic that is unknown to the church today. Will totally change the way you see things, especially afflictions. This book is not watered down by any means, as all puritan writings are. Listen and enjoy as this narrator brings this book to life.
