Publisher's Summary

Bakery owner Willow Dalton's friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane's always had a reputation as a player. He's arrogant, and he's definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough for her to go along with a fake engagement a decade later - even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America's hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An "engagement" to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move...provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane and Willow's little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement and the real thing - including them.

Not sure why it was under romantic comedy

This was an okay book even though it was abit predictable. I'm really sure why it was listed under romantic comedy because I never out right laughed but there were a few places that I snickered. Not worth a credit but I paid 1.99 because I have Kindle unlimited so it was worth that.

I love all of her books

I believe I own all of her books I will listen to or read anything she has written. I may not be the best person to say this but everything I have read by Melissa Foster deserves five stars or more.

I want my credit and the last several hours of my life back

Ridiculous. Narrator's voice is unbearable, the story is as deep as a paper towel. And the alpha male vs. helpless female is eye-rolling.

it dragged

at first I thought the book had potential the storyline was pretty good but as the story started to drag on and on I couldn't finish the book. don't get me wrong I love romance books and I don't need to listen to a book that has lots of sex and even though this book does have Intimacy in it the problem is is that I just keep dragging on how she felt how he felt. I do like John Lane he's one of my favorite narrators he's one of my favorites but even with his sexy voice I still couldn't finish the book I'm curious about the other characters to see if there will be books about them but just because this book dragged I will not get it

Ummmmm..

So I get when a guy is the narrator it's sometimes hard for him to do believable female voices, but John Lane's voice was SO deep as a male to compensate that it became irritating after while. Seriously, his female voice was fine and there was no need to GO SO LOW. It was a nice love story but it could have been 4 chapters shorter.

missing connection

I was tired of this book after an hour because it felt so contrived, manufactured. There was no connecting with the main characters.
One of the essential basics of a well written book is the author’s consistency in the world and characters they have created. The story has to make sense in the world created. This needs work.
I’m grateful this was available through Kindle Unltd.
I Do like Lane’s voice - it’s got a really pleasant timbre - but don’t think it was a fit for this book. Maybe if he was the male part of a dual narration?

The Real Thing

Zane has come home and he has come back for Willow. He needs to do some work on his reputation but he really wants Willow, now he has to convince her he really wants her to keep and not just for show. I have to tell you all, I have read other books in this series and now going back and catching up. Yeah, this series is good! That's all I'm going to say because you have to grab these and read them for yourselves.

I liked the story but got a little bored

Title: The Real Thing
Author: Melissa Foster
Format: Audio
Narrator: John Lane
Genre: Romance - Second Chance, Fake Fiance
Standalone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes Book 1 of the Sugar Lake series
POV: Willow and Zane
Steam Level: Slow Burn to toasty
4/5

The Real Thing was a cute move-star, second-chance, fake-fiance romance. I liked the narrator's voice but I had issues focusing on this story. Overall, The Real Thing was a fun story and I liked the characters and the love story but there was just something about it that kept me interested but it wasn't my favorite.

Good listen

Ah, Zane, how we tend to try to dodge the mines in the mine field of deception. Can’t be too careful these days
