Publisher's Summary

An all-new, sizzling stand-alone romance from New York Times best-selling Author Kendall Ryan....

Holt

Six years ago, Eden barged into my life and turned everything upside down.

We spent one scorching-hot night together, and then she disappeared into the sunset with the golden jock everyone adored. Which makes sense, right? A girl as beautiful and brilliant as Eden Wynn doesn’t end up with a rebel like me.

I expected them to live happily ever after, but that's not what happened. She's back in my life - and tempting me like no one else has. And while I'm certain I'll only tarnish her shine, I want her.

I'd heard the old notion that one night held the power to change everything. I just never believed it.

Until now.

Eden

I’m public enemy number one.

Turns out, the East Coast is protective of their hockey team and very vocal about not wanting a young female owner. Well, too bad, because this team is all Grandpa Wynn left me, and I have no intention of walking away.

Enter my new head of security, Holt Rossi. My history with him is...complicated. Chemistry reignites between us while the world waits for me to stumble.

He’s supposed to protect me - but who will protect my heart from him?

Warning: This romance contains one growly, broken hero; a bunch of rowdy hockey players; and a smart, hardworking heroine whose life hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. This is a no-cheating, scorching-hot love story with a guaranteed HEA.

.... IT WAS OKAY

This was a low-angst, easy-going romance where Fate and Destiny gives Eden a second-chance to choose right.. and, when she and Holt are finally brought together again, it’s a sweet and sentimental climb.

At 21, Eden had a crush on the College Hockey star Alex, but the bad-boy never noticed her amongst the sea of women throwing themselves at him. However, there was one man who couldn’t take his eyes off her - Holt.. and, when rejection hits Eden one emotional party night, it’s Holt’s arms and Holt’s bed that Eden will fall into for an ‘almost’ one-night sexy hookup. Fast-forward six years and during that time Eden had won and lost the love of bad-boy Alex, she’d moved on from their romance and she’d been left the Boston Titans Hockey Team (who Alex now plays for). She’d also been appointed a new Security Firm in the wake of bad press and threats.. and surprise surprise it’s the very memorable Holt who owns it. A wealthy heiress following her Grandfather’s footsteps but struggling to make a name for herself and a man who feels he’s not worthy of her.

Worth a credit? It’s a 50/50 depends what you’re looking for.. for me, this book was an easy-going, low-impact, layer-free ‘meh’ listen that was enjoyable but it never really hooked me in and I think it’ll be easily forgotten. I’d preordered this and I was really looking forward to it.. but sorry, this time I just didn’t love the storyline, I didn’t much like the heroine or some of her actions and I didn’t think the story had much depth. However, on the plus side, I loved the kind, thoughtful, swoon-worthy loyal, loveable hero AND of course the excellent dual POV narration by the talented Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke who did an excellent job bringing the hero, the heroine, the heat and the heart to life.

Could not finish...

This book became so boring. It was great at putting me right to sleep. I kept re-listening to the chapters to see if I missed something good because my mind kept wandering. Sorry I used one credit on this

Eden and Holy

Eden is the new own of a NHL hockey team Holt is the head of the security firm hired to keep the team safe. They met back in college and had one night of amazing sparks of passion but didn’t let it get to far out of hand. She left with the Hockey star he went on to open the security firm. But even after all these years their attraction and chemistry is still there. The what if it rather for her the what if because she is the one who walked away . He knew she was special and knew there was something but also knew that because of his past they really shouldn’t be together . But now there was something different. This is a great second chance at love. The passion and feeling these two have is great. I love that they try to have respect that Holt tries to help Eden anyway he can. But I also love that there isn’t a lot of drama between the two . This is an adult relationship they talk they do have a few issues but work them out. I can’t wait for the next books
I read this book but I also listen to it on Audible if you like audibles I would suggest that as well Jason Clark is amazing as well as Vanessa Eden.

Great start to a new series!

The Rebel was a fantastic start to Kendall Ryan's Looking to Score Series. I loved everything about this hockey, lady boss, bodyguard romance. Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin narrate this audio book.

This second chance romance is full of steam and passion. I love how Kendall Ryan creates characters with ambition, but also lets us see their insecurities and doubts. With plot has a slight role reversal, with the lady boss, rich heroine and the under paid bodyguard. Kendall smashes these stereotypes, and proves no matter how much money you make, or your family history, that sometimes given a second chance, love conquerors all.

Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin portrayed Holt and Eden perfectly. Vanessa Edwin has such a decadent voice that instantly makes you fall in love with Eden, but feel her uncertainties at the same time. Jason Clarke's performance of Holt is pure alpha male hotness. Jason's signature growly voice makes you feel protected with Holt, the bodyguard.

Overall I really enjoyed The Rebel. I am looking forward to The Rival, and getting Alex's story. Kendall Ryan does an amazing job getting us ready for the next book in the series.

Not the usual Kendall Ryan

I love this author but this story did not have the growth her other stories have. It was honestly somewhat.... boring. The characters did not feel developed and it just felt weird all around. First time I won't be reading more of her series. Narrators were great- I love Jason C., Vanessa E. was a little breathy for my taste.

My kind of romance!

I am a huge fan of Kendall Ryan and had high hopes for this book and it did not disappoint. Holt and Eden have a brief encounter in college but Eden makes a choice that she will later regret. Years later they are thrown back together and the sparks are still there. I love that Eden is a smart and tough young woman but still shows a vulnerable side and hasn’t given up on love. And Holt let’s the past be the past and moves forward with his life and holds hope for a future with Eden. All in all this book has very little angst, lots of heart, and plenty of steamy times to keep you listening. Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin are fantastic and really bring the special sauce to create a five star listen.

Female character poorly developed

I was really excited to start Kendall’s new series. Unfortunately, this one didn’t do it for me. Eden’s plight was meh and I never really got into rooting for her. And while I enjoyed Vanessa’s voice for Eden... her male character voice was horrible. Also, how as an owner do you not try and have a one on one with your ex (who is now your player) at the beginning of the season and make sure it doesn’t effect the team? I just kept waiting for that interaction with Alex more so than whatever was going on with Holt. Not a good look when you’re more interested in the ex than the current flame. Maybe I’ll get that scene in the next book???? I think I would have been more into Holt if they had that closure and it wasn’t just lingering there.
Finally, there wasn’t enough about her being a badass owner to feel bad for her when the rumors and gossipy stuff was happening so that you as the reader were on her side. Instead it felt like she played more into what the “blogs” wanted her to be and the story focused on her being weak and not capable of handling tough situations. I’m really hoping the next book is better.

Not one of my favorites, rather boring storyline

I don’t know what it was about these characters, but I just didn’t feel a strong connection between them and not really much of a build up to their love story. Just didn’t feel their first encounter was memorable enough to warrant a 6 year longing...not one of my favorites from Kendall Ryan.

Loved the narrators and narrations!

Jason Clarke could voice my fantasies every and any day of the week. His voice is exactly the the kind of voice you need whispering, grunting, or growling in your ear. I always enjoy his work.

Vanessa Edwin is new to me and I am happy to say I found it easy to enjoy her performance. She's a natural and it flowed.

The Rebel, well, it was good. I liked the story but I didn't love it. I appreciated that Holt and Eden are "people" and have insecurities and hang ups. I just didn't feel like Eden was engaging. I didn't really connect with her. I needed Holt to get his HEA though so here she is.

It's a bummer because I really wanted to love this book. Guess I'm the Rebel here...
