Publisher's Summary

Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild.

Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder.

It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.

The Red Knight has all three, he has youth on his side, and he's determined to turn a profit. So when he hires his company out to protect an Abbess and her nunnery, it's just another job. The abbey is rich, the nuns are pretty, and the monster preying on them is nothing he can't deal with.

Only it's not just a job. It's going to be a war....

The Red Knight is the first book of The Traitor Son Cycle.

A descriptive tale of knights and wizards

This was a decent enough book. I don't care for the reader but he wasn't so bad I couldn't get through the story. He uses different voices which I enjoy. The writer is very descriptive in his explanations of medieval gear, military structure and fighting. It's clear he's done some research. I find the characters are needlessly complicated at times but the overall character development and interactions are good.

Great Book

Started it and then had to stop. Started over and loved it. It is nicely designed with a depth of plot and character development that made it a delightful read.

Disappointing

The book had a great deal of potential. I liked the world that the author created but I found the characters confusing and hard to keep track of. There seemed so many underlying innuendos that I constantly felt like I was missing something. Also the Christian religion didn’t fit with an entirely new and strange world. I finished the book but won’t continue to read the series.
