À propos de cet audio

Inspired by true stories of WWII, don't miss this emotional and poignant historical novel debut of courage against all odds, perfect for fans of Anna Stuart and Soraya M Lane.

Poland, 1942. After witnessing the destruction of her hometown in Warsaw, Anna Kowalski joins the Polish Resistance. She is tasked with smuggling as many children as possible out of the Warsaw Ghetto through the sewers and relocating them to safety.

Through her work, Anna meets Johnnie Nowak, an RAF pilot who had managed to escape from a prisoner of war camp. He's not safe in Warsaw, so Anna leads him out of the city to protect him...

But suddenly Anna is caught by the SS and sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp where she is surrounded by even more horror and despair. A female guard, known as The Beast, is renowned for her violence and aggression towards her prisoners, and she's set her sights on Anna.

When Anna is relocated to a different camp, she finds herself reunited with Johnnie Nowak, the pilot she had saved. Desperate to escape, the two of them devise a plan, that if caught, could mean a fate far worse than death.

Will Anna and Johnnie finally find freedom, and survive the war together?

I had the absolute pleasure of reading this remarkable book written by Joanne Kormylo, and I was truly moved by the experience. The story, rooted in real-life events and people—including the author’s own father—offers a deeply personal and powerful window into the horrors and human experiences of World War II.

What struck me most was how vividly and beautifully the book was written. The level of detail pulled me in from the first page and held me all the way through. It was both heartbreaking and enlightening—at times difficult to read because of the painful truths it reveals, but impossible to put down because of how important and captivating it is.

This isn’t just another WWII story—it’s a testament to real lives, real suffering, and extraordinary resilience. I finished it with a deeper understanding of history and immense admiration for the courage of those who lived through it.

A must-read for anyone who wants to connect with history on a profoundly human level.

The book is very moving and emotional for me. I was a friend of the author's dad when I was a teen. The book (story) makes me think of him and the time we spent together. I listened to this marvelous book while driving and did not want to stop listening.
What happened in WWII should never be be forgotten. May we never forget the sacrifice and lives risked. Some are brave enough to talk about the painful events and some to never speak of it.
