We are introduced to a new WW II hero; Scott Bradley James fresh out of Annapolis who just received his first posting as a new Ensign. He thought that he could sneak out of his ship to be with his new girlfriend in Honolulu on Dec 6, 1941. Then the Japanese attacked. His mad race to get on his ship, as the bombs are falling all around him, is just the start of his many adventures. This novel was really satisfying. Our hero manages to find himself at the centre of the most important battles in the Pacific in early part of the war. Our hero has a turbulent time as a midshipman but somehow gets through with honours. Not only do we get an accurate ringside seat to WW II naval action; but we experience our hero being forged into becoming a leader. I am really looking forward to Book 2 in this great new series.
