Publisher's Summary

A string of killings. An identity stolen. Only he can find the truth.

Reese Roberts was the guardian of Iron City. Its fearless protector. The only one willing to do whatever it takes...until he was shot on the streets and left paralyzed from the waist down. Now, the vigilante known as the Roach has disappeared. Faded into legend.

It’s been years since Reese could take on crime and clean up the streets. He’s a shriveled old drunk, living like a hermit and waiting for his life to end. All that’s left to do is wallow in the mistakes that led him here. To wonder if he went too far.

But when a copycat steals his suit and takes justice into his own hands, a new killer emerges, leaving brutal messages behind. He wants to eliminate the Roach for good this time.

It’s time for Reese to re-emerge from his shell and fight back. Who else can stop the flurry of killings? Definitely not the corrupt police department. Iron City needs the Roach again. Only, this time, he’ll need to save it without his legs.

What the critics say

"A dark and powerful journey into the broken mind of a crippled vigilante, clawing his way out of despair to protect his legacy and his city. Reader beware: once you crack this novel open, you won't be able to close it!” (Jeremy Robinson, NY Times best-selling author of Tribe and The Others)

“A world worthy of being a sister city to Gotham. Gritty, grimy, and mesmerizing.“ (Actor Lou Diamond Phillips, Prodigal Son; La Bamba)

“Great narration and dialogue, Rhett C. Bruno brings to life a character who’d rather be dead...or at least has a death wish." (Darick Robertson, co-creator of The Boys - now a Prime Original Series)

“White-knuckled and unfiltered. The Roach plunges you into the filth of the city and holds you under.“ (James S. Murray, number-one best-selling author of the Awakened series and star of truTV’s Impractical Jokers)

The Roach is my new favorite anti hero

The Roach is not your average hero or suited up hero. But he is a gruff, brutal, no mercy vigilante. Who's story is both as compelling to listen to, as it is understandable. It's a very realistic portrayal of what would happen to a real life vigilante/anti hero.

I hope the author finds time to revisit the character. A story or two of him in his prime. When he was in all his "Glory" would be amazing.

I will be sure to recommend this book enthusiastically to all of my comic reading friends. I hope more people get a chance to explore the Roach story.

R. C. B + R. C. B = Magnificence

The world needed a different type of hero. Story and narration drag you in immediately and keep you there. Well done. Highly recommend if you want a 'marathon listen' worthy book. 👍👍

Ended up being pretty awesome

I bought this book with high expectations. I think because I'm used to RC Bray in the mountain man series, I was expecting a different kind of book.

viewing this book the way it's intended (the author explains afterwards) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Highly recommended! Gritty and gripping!

While this story doesn’t fit nicely within any of the existing genres for audiobook, it carved out its own niche with a gritty former vigilante fighting to deal with his current reality in an equally gritty city that has forgotten him. Gripping from start to finish.

RC Bray delivers his usual level of top-shelf narration. After each session of recording The Roach in his recording booth, he probably went out to beat up a few criminals in his neighborhood - it’s that gripping of a story!

Could not press pause

I don’t normally post reviews and I would not normally buy a book with this description but I loved other audiobooks from Rhett so prompted by email I picked it up. It’s a great story and one I could not put down. The audio book is convincingly narrated by RC Bray and well and credibly written. I will be looking for more books by Rhett Bruno. Thank you

Couldn't get into it

I am a massive RC Bray fan and when I saw he'd narrated this, I couldn't resist getting it. Sadly, despite his awesome narration, I just couldn't get into this book. 2.5hrs of negativity and relatively little of interest happening... and I just wasn't enjoying it.
