The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants - rather than the BFG - she would have soon become breakfast. Lovely narration
Roald Dahl is such a talented storyteller. It is a treat to have him read those stories himself. (Unlike other writers who are not necessarily great readers, Roald Dahl is a talented performer as well as a talented writer.) Of course, those are abbreviated versions of the stories, but the point is to spend a few hours listening to Roald Dahl himself bring his famous characters to life. (For complete versions of the stories, buy the individual books.)

Abriged versions
It's cool to hear the author himself (especially for the songs), but i believe that these may be abridged versions. For example in James there are no cloud monsters. Still fun.

Subtle Narration & Excellent Storytelling
My tweens LOVE this series (& I do too) Highly recommend it.
As to other reviewer’s complaints for ‘boring’ narration (by Roald Dahl, author of the books himself) - this is subtle & clever storytelling with many puns & brilliant insights into contemporary society (consider the Mike Teevee poem regarding our limited attention spans;)
The stories are unabridged & told with adequate expression. Very entertaining for older readers. Best recommended for kids used to listening to ‘more complex’ audiobooks.

Wish the stories were separated into tracks....
I love Roald Dahl, he is an excellent storyteller! I am frustrated by the collection on this site because it is just one long continuous 3 hour track. If my kids ask me for one story, it is very hard to find the beginning of one or the end of another. Frustrating.

ABRIDGED without chapters to separate each book.
What would have made The Roald Dahl Audio Collection better?
Having the books separated by chapters so that you can access each story separately instead of having to scroll through to find the start and sop times for each book. Major pain.
Any additional comments?
I was tricked into purchasing this as mu first ever audio book. I didn't know or understand that it was not the full book for each of the books. Now that I know what to look for in the future I will be more careful.
Also, the books are NOT even separated by chapters so you have to scroll through the entire file to find each book.
Not a good first experience.

This Audiobook Needs Tracks!
Where does The Roald Dahl Audio Collection rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Love Roald Dahl and the performance is done by the author himself. However, this recording is terrible because there are no tracks to split up the stories. This is one long audio track.

I was TRICKED!
It was not clear in the purchase of this collection that the stories are not complete. We listened to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and right at the turning point of the story when Charlie was going to find a ticket... it cuts off! How dishonest this collection is! I am so completely disappointed. Shame on the seller for not making this clear.--it is basically a sample packet.

Roald Dahl reads Roald Dahl.
My four-year-old likes it.
I like it.
The timbre of Dahl's voice is exquisite.
His narrational skills are every bit the equal of his stories.
His stories belong to childhood.

Highly abridged!
The stories are extremely abridged! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is only 1 hour and 6 minutes long. Charlie finds the ticket 16 minutes into the reading. I’m horrified that Mr. Dahl was willing to read this out loud! We stopped listening after the one book. This is only worth buying if you really need to hear Mr. Dahl read.
I heartily do recommend the readings of both of the Charlie books by Eric Idle. They are hysterically funny.

Awesome Collection of Stories
Would you consider the audio edition of The Roald Dahl Audio Collection to be better than the print version?
People can decide for themselves if they prefer to listen to a book or read it themselves. This collection of stories is read by Mr. Dahl himself which is pretty cool..
What did you like best about this story?
All of the stories are great. Each "Chapter" is its own story, so you can choose between the longer stories which are well over an hour, and the shorter ones which are around 20 minutes..
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The Stories are all classics - read by the Author himself.
