Story
I can’t believe I have to go home to Nebraska for my sister’s wedding. I’m gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least my bestie agreed he’d man up and help. Too bad he had to catch a different flight than me. Then, his plane got delayed. And finally - because bad things always happen in threes - instead of my best friend, his evil twin walks out of the airport. If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Grady Holt. He’s awful.

Story
Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990 - and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.

Can you fall in love like they do in the movies? It's Evie Summers' job to find out. Because if she can't convince her film agency's biggest client, Ezra Chester, to write the romantic-comedy screenplay he owes producers, her career will be over. The catch? He thinks rom-coms are unrealistic - and he'll only put pen to paper if Evie shows him that it's possible to meet a man in real life the way it happens on the big screen. Cynical Evie might not believe in happily ever after, but she'll do what it takes to save the job that's been her lifeline.

Who, wait for it, wants to find Mrs. Right and get hitched. He’s a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of man, and it’s a darn shame I’m not on the market. If I were, his accent alone would melt me. House Rules:

The Wheatons are infamous among the East Coast elite for their lack of impulse control, except for their daughter Clara. She’s the consummate socialite: over-achieving, well-mannered, predictable. But every Wheaton has their weakness. When Clara’s childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too tempting to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.
After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive - not to mention handsome - for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the internet....
Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realizes living with him might make her the Wheatons most scandalous story yet. His professional prowess inspires her to take tackling the stigma against female desire into her own hands. They may not agree on much, but Josh and Clara both believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll help everyone else get lucky too.
What the critics say
“What an incredible debut! Danan gives us strangers to annoyed-roommates to kinda-friends to angsty-pining to finally-lovers with humor, wit, and just a hint of pathos. Josh and Clara are easily my favorite ‘smash the patriarchy’ couple, and The Roommate is easily one of my top romance reads of 2020!” (Jen DeLuca, author of Well Met)
"The Roommate is laugh-out-loud funny, bananas sexy, and deeply romantic. Danan’s voice is fresh and sharp, and the romance between Clara and Josh is both sizzling hot and heartwarming. Everything I want in a romance." (Andie J. Christopher, USA Today best-selling author)
"Nuanced, funny, super steamy and surprisingly tender, The Roommate raises the bar for rom coms in 2020 - a smashing debut, and I can't wait for more by Rosie Danan!" (Evie Dunmore, author of Bringing Down the Duke)

Steamy and fun
I really loved this book. I downloaded it not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It was cute, romantic and steamy from beginning to end. I'm usually not into cutesy romance but the author pulled it off very well without making it too cheesy or timid. The narrators also did a fantastic job bringing the story to life. When I first heard the male narrator's voice it didn't fit my imagination and I was a bit off put but he turned my opinion around with a great performance. I look forward to reading more from this author.

so great.
though this book falls victim to the same things as most romance novels, conflict being a result of a lack of communication, I really loved everything about this book. it is so sex positive and kind of political and wonderful and just... great.
the characters were solid. the chemistry wasn't always flying off the page but it was enough to keep me interested in invested for the whole novel. I listened to this one really quick. I think I got through it in two or three days. this is likely one that I will re listen to in the future.

Wow. I actually really enjoyed the book, there was actually some wonderful character development! I loved the underlying stories & the fact it wasn’t just about romance and sex but so much more. Clara & Josh had great chemistry and it was written very well. The ending was okay, wish there was a little bit more of a wow ending but it was still great :) I would recommend.

Funny, sweet and oh so sexy!
Clara Wheaton moved all the way to LA to room with her crush from childhood. What better way than convincing him that they should be together than being roommates first?
Her plan backfires as soon as she gets to California. Turns out Everett, her childhood crush is in a band and they're leaving - like right away. Her roommate now is someone she doesn't even know and she's not sure how to feel about it. Clara eventually finds out that her new roommate Josh is a pleasure professional and she's not entirely sure how to feel about that initially.
Enter Josh - oh Josh. Josh has got to be one of the best book boyfriend there is. He's so sweet and caring and really tries to get to know Clara better. I love that there was such a deep emotional connection between the two of them. They knew each others hopes and dreams and didn't mock them, instead tried to elevate each other.
This book was HOT HOT HOT. The sex scenes had my kindle steaming! I don't want to give the plot away too much - but I absolutely love the way the sex was portrayed in The Roommate. Sex isn't something that should be ashamed of or made to feel "dirty," and I love the way Rosie Danan is able to portray that in The Roommate.
The Roommate had everything that I love to read in a romance. It had the perfect amount of sexual tension mixed with scenes that had me laughing. At the same time I also have so many scenes highlighted that had my heart completely in my throat. I felt giddiness, excitement, angst, happiness and longing from this wonderful book.

I loved listening to the audiobook of The Roommate. Teddy Hamilton is a favorite narrator and he did such a wonderful job voicing Josh! I was able to feel all of Josh's emotions - laughter, pain and joy! Brittany Pressley was the perfect voice for Clara! I loved how in the beginning of the book she was so uncertain and by the end she had come into her own. Teddy Hamilton and Brittany Pressley were the perfect duo! They did a perfect job voicing Clara and Josh. I'm sure I'll be listening to this audiobook again in the very near future.

A fun, sexy story that pulled me out of a reading slump
This was such a fun and sexy read. It pulled me out of a pretty epic reading slump. I loved Clara and Josh and thought that they had great chemistry. They were a fantastic “opposites attract” couple, and their personalities complemented each other perfectly. I loved all of the playful, steamy moments they shared throughout the book. I appreciated the discussion of sex positivity, sex work, and prioritizing women’s pleasure. I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and I can’t wait to read Naomi’s book!

A definite must listen, so much more than a live story, but it was that too.
There are so many aspects of this story that I loved. At the heart of it, it highlights the uncertainty everyone faces in their lives with finding their own place in their world. Often people think they are headed in one direction and suddenly life happens and they find themselves turning down another path. This was written beautifully into the story, and was relatable and smartly written. Add in the pressure we feel to belong or meet expectations and finding a sense of self acceptance and love regardless of others or obstacles and this story added an interesting take on that. And finally the romance was everything I needed while listening. It had a great blend of anticipation, flirty moments, sexual build up and tension, and ultimately love all displayed in a way that was not only swoon worthy but subtle with its realistic portrayal. I ❤️ this story so hard. The narration was amazing, and so completely well done, it has duel POV and I feel that added greatly the the story telling. This is definitely a book that is credit worthy. It gets better with every chapter, believe me.

This book had so much potential. The story line is sweet but if you’re going to write about a porn star then I was expecting more heat and more drama!!! Even add some laughter in! This was a little on the boring side. I’m assuming her editor didn’t explain this to her....

I gave this book a go because Brittany Pressley and Teddy Hamilton are two of my favorite narrators and the book description seemed pretty cute.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. Very well written characters and funny dialogue. Some super steamy scenes that I was definitely not expecting, but very well done. Would totally recommend!
