Publisher's Summary

Jack McEvoy is at the end of the line as a crime reporter. Forced to take a buy-out from the LA Times as the newspaper grapples with dwindling readership and revenues, he's got 30 days left on the job.

His last assignment? Training his replacement, a low-cost reporter just out of J-school who couldn't find the police station if it was right next door to the Times, which it is.

But Jack has other plans for his exit. He is going to go out with a bang - a final story that will win newspaper journalism's highest honor - a Pulitzer Prize. He focuses on Alonzo Winslow, a 16-year-old drug dealer in jail after confessing to a brutal murder. But as he delves into the story, Jack realizes that Winslow's so-called confession is bogus. The kid might actually be innocent.

Not quite the Poet but....

Good story but didn’t find it up to the same level as the poet, which was 6 stars all the way! I also found the narration a bit confusing at times as if the narrator didn’t quite find the same voice for each character from reading to reading. Overall though still very entertaining.

Good book

Was an okay book was eell written and had good narration. Kept the story going pretty good. Liked it probably will continue reading if the series continues. Liked Michael Connellys Harry Bosch books and this was as good as those.

Suspenseful, good listen

I enjoyed Peter Giles’ narration of The Scarecrow. It was simple to follow when characters changed. I think his voice added a robustness to the characters and brought the book to life for me. I enjoyed listening to this story as it was gripping from start to finish. One I am sure I will come back to.

Fantasic - couldn't stop!

What did you like about this audiobook?

Another fantastic Michael Connelly novel - fast moving and gets your interest from the start . As the story unfolds the way the characters are described makes them real. Very good plot too.

If you liked The Poet, you'll like this!

I very much enjoyed Connelly's books about the Poet and looked forward to another McEvoy novel. This book does not dissappoint! The shifting perspective between the killer and those who chase him, and of course the plot as a whole make it well worth listening. Peter Giles does a great job narrating.

What a letdown !

As numerous and previous readers of the Poet’s first novel, I naively thought that this sequel would somehow live up to my expectation. I was totally mistaken in my judgment. The first part of the book painlessly moves forward and is soon entirely submerged by the insipidness of the last part. Don’t look for any of the ingredients that enchanted you on the first installment, there is none.
