Kennedy is an outstanding writer. She crafts a very powerful story with great compassion. As someone who works in this field with forensic nurses, I highly recommend this book

Exceptional, fascinating, very well-written and narrated

While there should be trigger warnings at the beginning of this book, the content is a necessity for everyone. Claire Danes reads clearly and well. She doesn't play up the drama; she doesn't need to. The story covers not only the history of the rape kit, but also the sexism and racism behind all of the events surrounding this issue. The author's own story is gut wrenching, and readers who've been assaulted in the past need to know that she gives some detail of her own assaults (not overtly graphic but enough to be triggering for some people's trauma). Also, note that the author is a journalist, so she speaks about her own methods of digging up this content. She attempts to be as unbiased as possible with the more factual information, but she has a clear bias towards the issue as a whole (totally understandable), and engages in some speculation when she couldn't find answers (also understandable). I greatly enjoyed this book, even if it made me uncomfortable at time. *Side note: I have never been assaulted, so I can't know how others will react to this story.
