Publisher's Summary
ABC’s chief medical correspondent helps you ring in the New Year right with a resolution that’s actually doable: a year-long plan to improve your emotional and physical health - from giving up alcohol to doing a digital detox, but each for only one month.
Dr. Jennifer Ashton is at the top of her field as an ob-gyn and news correspondent. But even at the top there’s still room to improve, and with The Self-Care Solution, she upends her life one month at a time, using her own experiences to help you improve your health and enhance your life.
Dr. Ashton becomes both researcher and subject as she focuses on twelve separate challenges. Beginning with a new area of focus each month, she guides you through the struggles she faces, the benefits she experiences, and the science behind why each month’s challenge - giving up alcohol, doing more push-ups, adopting an earlier bedtime, limiting technology - can lead to better health.
Month by month, Dr. Ashton tackles a different area of wellness with the hope that the lessons she learns and the improved health she experiences will motivate her (and you) to make each change permanent. Throughout, she offers easy-to-comprehend health information about the particular challenge to help you understand its benefits and to stick with it. Whether it’s adding cardio or learning how to meditate, Dr. Ashton makes these daily lifestyle choices and changes feel possible - and shows how beneficial a mindful lifestyle can be.
Inspiring, practical, and informative, The Self-Care Solution teaches you how to recalibrate your life to enjoy a better, healthier year, one month at a time. Featuring guidance from top experts, entertaining case studies, easy-to-follow advice and tips, and Dr. Ashton’s observations and insights, this audiobook can help you achieve a better life balance and a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Not at all what I was expecting
I was hoping for self-care solutions, which seemed like a pretty sure bet, given the title. Instead, I feel like I got "How you can be as awesome as me," a directive on how to be skinnier, and prettier. There was literally a comment in every single monthly challenge about how already impressive abs and skin got better.
It honestly felt more like a brag book than a guide to improving self care. I found myself skipping through chapters just so I didn't have to listen to her go on about how she was a doctor and on TV, and had a great body and NYC apartment. If you are a working mom, with no time, or lots of money to play with, who wants to learn how to make time for yourself, and make yourself a priority, this is definitely not the book for you.

Privilege, body shaming, and elitism
Honestly speaking, as someone in a position of privilege, this book reeks of it in the most disgusting way. The title is entirely misleading for many people actually in search of a “self care solution”
The idea of this book is good, but the narration is from a point of elite privilege and told with an undertone of condescension. If the author could have shared genuine vulnerabilities, my opinion may have been different, but a lot of her stories are told with an “I can do this but a lot of people don’t”. It just didn’t sit right with me.
She’s clearly OBSESSED with her body. Every single challenge somehow made her feel slimmer, tighter, flatter belly, clearer skin. Ew. And don’t think you can deflect these statements, she will definitely low key body shame you. “I lost a pound or two despite allowing myself to eat carbs!” What?! The chapter on steps, she disclosed that she got to an all time high weight aside from being pregnant... she had gained a whopping 4 pounds!!! SHAME! *insert eyeroll* I’m also wondering what happened to all the weight loss she experienced from previous months? Somethings fishy. Anyways, if you’ve read this far into this word vomit of a review, you’re an MVP. Go look in the mirror, tell yourself you’re amazing, and save the time and money on this book.

One Small Step
It was a struggle. As personally on a lifestyle change for the past 53Weeks has been more challenging then adjusting & adding one thing a mth. Still, is does show that 1 small change can add up but needs to become a lifestyle to gain benefits from it. We all have alot more in common the only difference is our starting point.

Don’t buy this.
Narcissistic indulgence. Save your money. Save your time. 1) she’s a physician- she’ll tell you that 3 times, at least, each chapter and then she’ll wear a tiara in the last chapter. Wow. 2) clean up your act / sleep, hydrate, move. 3)she’s insufferable with her “personal vignettes”. She’s apparently perfect.

Inspiring
I fully enjoyed this book and am inspired to follow Dr Ashton's experience. There is plenty of research showing us why we should make certain changes and adopt new habits, but how do you start? Where do you start? I found that this book answered my questions. You start small. One change for one month. I already started my January challenge, which is different than the author's, but it's meaningful to me. I'm looking forward to forming better habits this year.

Great book to read and inspire you
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gives great tips on health, wellness, and happiness.
My one critique is that I wish that the audible book came with a pdf that outlined the ten steps for each of the challenges. It is hard to remember what they were and reference in the audible book without writing them down myself.

It’s all list of 12 things that was stretched into a book somehow. It’s chapter is something like laugh or drink water. Ugh I wish I knew. Save your money and time.

A new outlook on healthy habits
I enjoyed this book so much that I am doing the monthly challenges. I read the book in January and started my first months challenge with a month of hydration beginning February. I'm planning to continue a challenge every month for a year. Do your body good by simply doing month long challenges.
