Publisher's Summary

Secrets have been unleashed. Worlds have fallen. A Mage-King has died. But the war rages on!

Secrets and warships combined to turn the tide of the Siege of Legatus, delivering the capital of the Republic of Faith and Reason into the hands of their enemies. With Damien Montgomery called away to lead the entire Protectorate of Mars, fighting the war falls to Mage-Admiral Jane Alexander and Mage-Lieutenant Roslyn Chambers.

As the Martian Second Fleet moves against the remaining Republic worlds, Captain Kelly LaMonte’s covert stealth ship sweeps the worlds away from the conflict, searching for the Republic’s government-in-hiding and a chance to end the bloody conflict.

But this war began in the shadows, and the secrets hidden in those shadows threaten to turn the tide of the war once more - and bring it to the heart of the Protectorate!

AWESOME.

Wow, this is a fantastic series written by Glynn Stewart. I like the storyline and although Damien Montgomery did not appear much in the story it was still very good. There are lots of action and I hope this series will continue for a l ong time. One of my favourites. Jeffery Kafer as always performed/narrated beautifully. Wonderful series and I am looking forward to the next book.

Boooooo!!!!!!

MC was barely in the book.
should have been a parroty, not as part of the series.
I honestly wonder if he wrote this..
a large portion of the actions taken fell completely outside the realm that was created i.e. seven books of you cannot do this, but now you can.
the Narration was good.
I probably will not be purchasing any more of these books.

Disappointing conclusion to and arch

I really like this series. I was disappointed with this book in particular. I get it they had to wrap up the Republic war arch but this feels a bit lazy and contrived.

Spoilers

First I have some plot point issues. One being how do you replace a royal guard detachment and no one, mean no one notices. Also how do intercept said detachment in space based on the physics of the book. Second how do they not notice the ship that kidnapped the Admiral jump. We know from the other part of this book that you can’t hide jump flares. So it would be obvious when the ship used for extraction jumps. It’s dumb and a huge plot inconsistency.

No Damien, No Peace

Kidding. Overall this is a good book, up to the series’ and the reader’s high standards for quality but the lack of the main viewpoint character is kinda annoying. I don’t hate Chambers or the spy ship, but that’s not what I come here for. Add on some of the points where I felt the author was purposefully padding the narrative out to extend the life of the book series and it’s a very meh part of the series.
