I enjoyed this story a lot, I didn't fall head over heels in love with it but it was enjoyable, it's nice for a stand alone book it has the right amount of intrigue, fun characters and romance. Could it have been better? yes, it definetly could have been better, but it was a good one day read_listen. I do recommend it. The narrator was pretty amazing I loved all the voices she maid and the emotion behind her lecture

OMG finally I book I can stand to read that isnt romantic shit! I just wish there was a series. I love how ruthless and confident the heroine is. Its so refreshing from the same stereotypes I’ve read over and over again in other books.

Great story but I feel like there could have been more romance. The ending was quite surprising. I wasn't expecting that.

Ehhhhh. This was entertaining enough. I was glad that there were no explicit sex scenes.
I’m not a huge fan of how murder is glorified in this book. I knew it had a remorseless killer from the preview, but I had hoped she would have an arc. She’s not killing for purely virtuous reasons, folks.
The plot was too tidy, and predictable in the sense that you always knew what events would eventually arrive, it was just a matter of when.
The narrator was alright. She did well at the male voices too. She just didn’t stand out.

I like the odd anti-hero book…but the main character is so not nice. She’s all about power and getting it however see can. I kinda start to like her just past midway through. It’s just not my favourite.

This book has been haunting my recommendations/suggested reads lists on Audible & Kindle for ages. I finally caved, and got the audiobook.

The narrator was superb!

I will say, the book was well-written and captivating, though didn't contain themes I generally enjoy. Fir example, this is a New Adult read - As a woman in my late 30's, a romance between an 18 & 19 year old is just not the vision it once was. I prefer more mature characters who aren't so emotionally dense & prone to silly dramas. I also prefer a bit more spice - and this book has romantic tension, but I'd rate at a 1/5 🌶.

There are a lot of descriptions of palace opulence, rich foods, and social hierarchy within high society. Our main characters here are actually quite morally grey and shallow. There isn't really a whole lot about them to make them likeable. I enjoy a badass character, don't get me wrong, and am okay with some morally challenging situations; however, the behaviors by these characters smacks pettiness & petulance.

While the arc between these characters wraps in the first book, book 2 appears to tell the story of Alessandra's older sister. I'm not really interested in exploring the series further.

3/5 stars for the story with a 4/5 for narration.

I ate this up in a matter of days, and was so pleased with how brilliantly it was performed.

The book is well paced and evenly seasoned with bits of romance, mystery, and adventure.

4/5 reccomend for sure!

A deliciously satisfying listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this read, right from the very beginning. The inner monologue of the main character is so unique from other YA novels, she’s clever, witty, and so sassy, her thoughts and interactions with the other characters had me grinning constantly. I read some other reviews before starting and there were a couple that suggested there wasn’t much romance in this story and I simply disagree! The romance is constant, it’s a slow burn and if you’re looking for constant steam you won’t find it here, but I enjoyed the romance thoroughly all the same. In my opinion, this book is a perfect palate cleanser between series. It was so refreshing not to be left with a cliffhanger at the end; stand-alone books are so uncommon and I really appreciate the way the story unfolded. It was performed very well, Caitlin has a lovely voice and animates each character so well. I highly recommend!
