Publisher's Summary

After fighting a troll in a back alley, I found out the supernatural was real.

Then I discovered I'm a dragon shifter.

Soon after, I learned I'm also a mage.

Turns out this combination is incredibly rare, and now everyone wants a piece of me.

Being a dragon, there's only one thing I want to do: gather my hoard.

Power. Magic. Women. Riches. It's all going to be mine.

Good until the last 2 hours

So, the entire time it’s an obvious male power fantasy, so it wasn’t really all that enchanting, but it was serviceable. The fight scenes were fun and the protagonist was likable and the intimate scenes weren’t half bad. That was, until the last two hours. The protagonist becomes an insufferable sleeze-ball and things just fall out of nowhere for him with no rhyme or reason. I mean, it’s a Shifter Harem book, so I knew it wouldn’t exactly be To Kill A Mockingbird, but at the end it devolves into basically what an 11 year old kid would write about a superhero version of himself where all he writes is “And then he gets all the girls and becomes invincible and no one can ever be better than him”.

too whiny.

I felt as if the mc came across too too whiny. He spent the better 3/4 of the book whining and complaining about women wanting him which is utterly dumb. As for the story, it started out okay but ended up not flowing so well. A lot of good writers just cant get the dragon thing down well and I believe this tory was one, too too angry and hung up on this alpha male trait that just comes across overbaring. there's literally no reason for him to save the thunderbird girl near the end where I had to stop reading. Okay story, great performance but just not worth it in my opinion.

Just one.

I want is one good book from this author. He has so much potential but like all others it’s like they copy and past each others ideas and change just enough of the dialogue to be different. The first 4 chapters are so unbelievably stupid and awkward it actually gave me a headache. The MC is just like every man is this style of book. They are so stupid and lack any kind of confidence. Then halfway through the book he finally gets laid and back and forth being and over confident asshole than knows everything so he mocks it. Back to not know his ass from a hole in the ground. Instead of paying attention to what’s important he gets hung up on the word Mates of all things. Then he becomes the alpha of his own clan. So of course he gets a big head. That’s like saying he is the man of the house. But he is the only one that lives there.

Just once I would like a story we’re the male mc is confident, smart and doesn’t act like a 12 year old seeing a boobs for the first time. I have listened to over 300 of this style of book and only two come close to having a Mac that doesn’t make my gender look so weak and helpless. That would be Succubus Lord and Dragons Justice. That’s 2 out of 315 total books that involve a harem, monster girl or dragons. Growing up men where strong. Now it’s hard to understand why in every male fantasy boo the man is weak beyond belief but in female fantasy books the males a strong and confident. It makes no sense. They don’t have to start out as Superman but believable would’ve a great start.

Pretty dang good

I would have bought the second book if it was available right now, the narrators did a great job, had great fight scenes good backstory and the adult stuff was pretty good imo. Dante king is good at what he does.

Terrible, even by power fantasy standards

First off, narrators are okay but the audio balancing is awful. The dude gets quiet and hard to understand and the girls are way too loud when they're excited/angry. The plot itself starts out alright but rapidly degrades into macho Chauvinist bs. The MC is understandably nervous about taking a second woman at first, but by the end he's scheming about how to get into a (legal) teenager's pants and excited to literally own all of his women forever. That's not a joke, because of a magic ritual every girl who joins him will be tortured by magic if they even think of sleeping with someone else, even if he dies. Wives are property but it's "OK" because it's "primal" and they agreed to it. What a load of crap.

Promising setting that derails

As the series progresses from book to book it derails or deviates from interesting or established ideas. Originally we get the Dragon, a being who is supposed to be King or Ruler of everything. Except, he is extremely weak for a dragon.

Okay, so he has mage powers too, gets like 3 or 4 spells, rarely uses spells in favor of his dragon powers except when the enemy uses anti mage weapons then he is all about those mage powers. His favorite spell is the swarm spell except it's not at some point.

So, he and his girls hunt invading supernatural creatures until the author drops that aspect after a book or two. Ya, a lot of cool filler dropped for whining, anger, and stupidity dialogue.

Then we find out he is also a vampire, I mean nightlord...nope, nevermind. Apparently vampire is the correct term even though it's established that it's not until the series contradicts itself. Apparently, this power is OP compared to being a dragon or mage.

The series can't get it's lore down and consistency. First two books were decent but 3 and barely into 4 just come across as boring with a spice of adult scenes.

Not Dante King's best work...

I realize that it's Male fantasy fulfillment (as are all Dante King's novels I've read/listened to so far), and it mostly succeeds, but the story tends to go overboard with it. The women practically throw themselves at the MC without much trepidation, and *spoilers* are willing to enter into a permanent and lifelong slave-master relationship with him...after meeting him minutes or even seconds before. *spoilers over* Everything just seemed too rushed, everyone seems strangely OK with how the universe works in regards to clans and "mates" to the point where it kind of gets kind of creepy. Some dialogue was incredibly cringe-inducing as well, i.e. women going from being unwilling to sleep with the MC to calling him "daddy" in what seems like minutes later.
Overall, not a bad book just felt like some of the plot threads and characters needed more time in the oven so to speak.

By far the best part was the voice work; both Voice Actors (VAs) really conveyed emotion well, The Male VA had the right amount of hesitation to smarmy as the character grew, and I have nothing but praise for the female VA who did amazing considering the material and multiple roles. I would listen to either of them regardless of the material.

what happened to Mama!?!?

I'm a recent fan to the Dante King series. I have appreciated two of his previous works such as making supers and stardust runners. overall I kind of enjoy the tempo and the story. I admit that the voice actors brought more life to the book making supers then reading the book. I only read book one and the rest I got an audible. with that being said I think this was a great story. I wouldn't put it up there with Stephen King or Michael Scott Earl but definitely beyond Sean Williams and Stephen colve.
this was a fun story. this is also a guilty pleasure book for me. however... One of the things that bothered me is this book tries to capitalize on the I'm a son who has to make sure his mother is taking care of or safe. she seems to be pitiful in the first five chapters of the book and then she completely disappears... and is only addressed as in I need to make my mom proud... why? it's your typical hey I've discovered I'm not just a regular everyday average Joe I actually have some special abilities about me and there's a bunch of cool ass super strong women that are going to help me achieve all my dreams, goals, and bear the children of my kingdom! but what happened to Mama. Mama supposed to be all this importance! Mama's sick and needs help! and then Mama disappears... what the hell. overall I think this is a good book. it's probably one I would wait for on sale though. I wouldn't purchase it at full price.
if you're getting the audible both voice actors do an extraordinary job. I believe that you be very entertained. for that I don't know if I do full price but if I ended up with a free extra credit then I would probably use it on this.

A good start

This had the beginnings of a fun series. I am already looking forward to the next book. It’s fun to see how the MC deals with his new way of life.

Great story

I have read a lot of dragons stories so far and each of them has something unique give it to them take the dragons justice, for example, heavy unique or American dragon eat to get your blood pumping this one it’s not on the level, but it is very close and it is really good for starting book series
