Story
It’s hard meeting your ex after so much time apart. You remember the tears and accusations, the desperate look on his face as he punched the wall, but you try not to show it. You smile politely, even while your heart beats faster. You watch as he looks down into the stroller, at the beautiful blond-haired, blue-eyed baby kicking his little legs in the sunshine, whose innocent smile lights up your world. You see his face change. You know what he’s thinking. The next day he calls. His voice is shaking. He wants the truth. Is it his child?

From the moment I meet my new mother-in-law in her beautiful country house, she makes it clear I’m not welcome. Story
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Story
Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again; to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbors, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son, Jacob, and his new girlfriend, Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes.... The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone.

Wes and Ivy are madly in love. They've never felt anything like it. It's the type of romance people write stories about. But what kind of story? When it's good, it's great. Flowers. Grand gestures. Deep meaningful conversations where the whole world disappears. When it's bad, it's really bad. Vengeful fights. Damaged property. Arrest warrants.

Underwhelming
So , I’m someone who usually can love any book . There’s been times where I seen harsh reviews and still enjoyed the book … but this book really just wasn’t it for me !
I’m greatly into any an all psychological thrillers / thriller crimes . Things of that sort .
So when reading the description of the book , I thought this is RIGHT up my ally ! Even though I seen not the best reviews I decided I’ll allow myself to make that decision because I really was intrigued with the little description of the story . Well , at first , it did really pull me in ! And I was intrested ! But then it got slow and just really unbelievable ! Like how could this even happen , like at all ! An I think that’s the only thing that kept me reading was trying to figure out how the author was gonna be able to spin their way out of it …
But even before the climax , or twist , I was already disengaged with the story , and was just continuing because I’m too nosey not to know the end lol ! The story fell flat & short ! :( !
( SMALL SPOLIER BELOW !!!!!!!!!!!! just explaining when the “ twist “ comes into the story , not what the actual twist is )
The twist only comes alllllllll the way at the end , almost at the epilogue… and even when it did come , it wasn’t this grand finale… the story just fell short .

While this book has an unexpected twist it took entirely too long to get to the point. I considered simply googling to figure out what happened because it was just soooooooo slow.

Slow, predictable, unbelievable. Not her best...
I love Shalini's work. Her books have entertained me on long drives, through slogs of housework...after reading her first one, I binged all of her published work that was available on audio. There were some that were better or more exciting or memorable than others, but even the ones that weren't outstanding at least kept me entertained. I've read everything she's put out for 2 years now, so I was excited about this one...til I wasn't. It started with an interesting premise, but I immediately knew what had happened and it was fairly easy to deduce the who, though the why is impossible, because the author fails to give us key information until the very end, the big, flat, long, overdue, unbelievable, uninspiring reveal. Maybe it's because I've listened to too many of her books and I know her tricks...but that just shows a lack of versatility and formulaic rut on her part.
I'll read her again in the future, but with less enthusiasm and far more skepticism going forward. I'm going to need something fresh and mind blowing to win me back fully.

Ending is quite flat, unfortunately
I liked the idea, and the writing was not bad overall, but it's not good when you hit the end of a mystery and it's explained for the audience in an unnecessarily detailed monologue. It's not even spoken to another character, and the whole thing would be significantly less disappointing if it had been left out entirely and just implied with a closing scene or final dropped hint.

The Silent Bride
I really enjoyed this audio recording. I was not expecting the ending. THAT was a surprise. A woman is getting married to the man that she is madly in love with and when she is walking down the aisle, she does not recognize him. Nor his parents. She wants to know where the "real Seth" is.
I recommend this audio recording 👌.

Contrived
I’m usually a fan of Shalini Boland’s, but this was a disappointing novel. Shallow characters, confusing narration, and a protagonist that was utterly lacking in intelligence. Boland wrapped it all up in the last 30 minutes, which justified this reader’s grasp of what really happened. IMHO, one of her worst and a painful listen.
