Hugo was a dog. He died. Now he's a kitten. As Hugo adjusts to his new body (not just a cat - a baby cat!), his new home (San Francisco), his new outside (Where are the mountains? Where is the lake?), and his sudden urge to sit in every box he sees, he wonders if he'll ever see Cassie or Jerry again.
Back in Lake Tahoe, Cassie and Jerry attempt to come to grips with life without Hugo. Cassie fills the void with "Tadpole Guard" and "Worm Patrol" and ups her protection of Jerry (her human), who is in the midst of a cataclysmic midlife crisis. In addition to his dog dying, Jerry's last two books have been monumental flops, and he's still reeling from his fiancee leaving him for another man. As if these problems aren't enough, his parents (who have become late-stage hippies) are coming to live with him for the entire summer.
And so begins the journey of three souls, intertwined by love, loss, and perhaps something even greater. Told with Nick Pirog's charm and razor sharp wit, The Speed of Souls is at once a hilarious, moving, and transcendent work of storytelling.

Adorable!
This novel by Nick Pirog, and narrated by Gabriel Vaughan and Carla Mercer-Meyer, is absolutely adorable! He kept me hanging right to the end, the characters were great, and the humour was so enjoyable! I've read all of Nick's novels, so I'm waiting for his next one to come out: The Numbers!

LOVED it!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This was such a good book! Any animal lover will get a kick out of it, with parts narrated from the POV of the animals in the story. There were LOL moments and a few that choked me up as well, but it truly is a heartwarming story of the strength of connection between souls, both human and animal, and the perseverance that love can instil.
*Slight Spoiler Alert*🫣🤫
In case anyone else is leery about reading this story for fear that the dog ends up dying in the end (I hate when that happens because I'll cry so hard over a character in a book, but can't help it)... you'll be relieved to know that that is NOT the case in this story. 😊
Also, the twist at the very end was really cool, and I was impressed how Pirog pulled a few loose ends (unnoticed by me) together and brought the tale full circle. 💞 Soooo good! 🥹

Amazing!
I loved this book, there were a few tears here and there but always from the heart. I give Nick Pirog a solid 10/10. Sir I beg of you, please keep writing.

Delightful!
Inspirational with all Mr. Pirogs talent and charm.
Author on my short list of must search and read list. Always nice having a list of Authors who provide introspective, funny,.., just add every good adjective you can think of, stories.
Characters narratives was delightful!
