Publisher's Summary

Ariella Bannon has no choice: she must put her precious children, Liesl and Erich, on that train or allow them to become prey for the Nazis.

Berlin 1939.

When her husband doesn’t come home one day, Ariella realises that the only way she can ensure her Jewish children’s safety is to avail of the Kindertransport, but can she bear to let them go?

A thousand miles away, Elizabeth Klein has closed herself off from the world. Losing her husband on the last day of the Great War, and her child months later, she cannot, will not, love again. It hurts too much.

But she is all Liesl and Erich Bannon have.

Thrown together in the wild countryside of Northern Ireland, Elizabeth and the Bannon children discover that life in the country is anything but tranquil. Danger and intrigue lurk everywhere, and some people are not what they seem.

From the streets of wartime Berlin, to the bombed out city of Liverpool, and finally resting in the lush valleys of the Ards Penisula, The Star and The Shamrock from USA Today bestselling author Jean Grainger, is utterly binge-worthy.

Loved it!

There are many reasons why this book is one to read! First, I enjoyed the mystery and relationships in this book. As we are in a pandemic, it gave me a chance to feel what it was like to do without and ration during the war. And with having to isolate at home, it was nice to read about relationships that were close and loving. This book is also very current because it shows antisemitism that occurred in Ireland during WW2, just as we are dealing with Black Lives Matter today, Donald Trump and George Floyd. Lastly, I was surprised by how much hatred was expressed by Talia toward the end ... but really, I shouldn’t be. How do people become so awful towards their fellow human beings? What a wonderful read, that is so current to today’s struggles!

A must Read

What a courageous story of one mother Arellia to send her children far away so that may be saved from the Natiz's is truly amazing.

How Elizabeth took the children in and cared for them as they were hers. Her compassion and understanding helped these young children and gave them comfort.

The similarities between the women and the loses they suffered is what makes the story even more heart wrenching.

The narration was outstanding and characters voices drew me into the story and made me feel like I was there with them, every step of the way.

Happy Listening

Informative and entertaining

I really enjoyed this book. I read the third book in the series first and enjoyed it so much that I purchased the other three. My parents lived through WWII, so I find these stories inspiring.
