Publisher's Summary

The Stormriders approach, certain to leave death and destruction in their wake. Can one young man find a way to defeat them?

Ten years after his father’s death, the memory of the attack still haunts 19-year-old Ary. On the eve of the draft, he faces his greatest fear: being sent to join the marines.

He knows the cost of war.

Ary dreams of marrying his childhood sweetheart, building a farm, and starting a family. But the Stormriders threat of war puts his loved ones and his plans in jeopardy.

Hard to get into

Pretty decent series though book 1 was difficult to get through, to the point I almost left the series but stuck it out. I'm glad I did because books 3 through 5 were much better. Book 1 and all the hussy talk got pretty old. The names and races were tough to get straight at the start but gets easier as you start to understand the world a bit more.

The narrator was great and did a very good job portraying the different characters and accents. I would enjoy hearing more of his work.

Overall it was a pretty good deal getting this much content for 1 credit.

It's OK.

Story has many issues. It's hard to listen to the main characters make the obviously wrong decision over and over again. I am calling events 2 or 3 books in advance.

It does get slightly better as it goes on but it's hard to listen to sometimes. The names of some of the characters are too similar at points and they are awkward names from a different language, leading you to be confused who's talking or doing what. In my opinion, it's not very well written and the characters are pretty shallow.

That being said, the story is average, not bad. The narrator is very good and has an excellent voice. For 1 credit and over 100 hours I would say it's worth it.

I almost quit but I'm glad I didn't

Honestly it was very hard to get through the first book. I didn't realize yet how much it built the foundation of the characters. In the end I'm goad I saw it through. The whole package worked very well.

the reality of human emotions

Slow development to start,, but, during that time I was interested in the author's descriptions of the interactions of people. Love, jealousy, betrayal, confusion, prejudice, etc, etc, all exaserbated by misunderstanding. and the story developed eventually into an enjoyable, and mildly exciting story. I'd give it all a B. It's long,, get ready.
