About this listen

Sara Stanley is only 14, but she can weave tales that are impossible to resist. In the charming town of Carlisle, children and grown-ups alike flock from miles around to hear her spellbinding narratives. And when Bev King and his younger brother, Felix, arrive for the summer, they, too, are captivated by the Story Girl. Whether she's leading them on an exciting misadventure or narrating timeless stories — from the scary "Tale of the Family Ghost" to the fanciful "How Kissing Was Discovered" and the bittersweet "The Blue Chest of Rachel Ward" — the Story Girl has her audience hanging on every word.(P)1997 Blackstone Audio Inc. What the critics say

"Conlin best performs the stories the story girl tells...her voice and demeanor come alive with natural enthusiasm." (AudioFile)

I loved this book as a child and enjoyed listening to it again. I didn't mind the narrator, but I found her voices a little inconsistent and the accents didn't make sense from one person to the other. I was pleased by her correct pronunciations of things such as Nova Scotia place names. I did find it fairly easy to listen to and enjoyed it more than some other L M. Montgomery audiobooks I've listened to.

A great story, fairly well told

Why the southern US accents? All wrong for this familiar and loved story. Is it because these are "country" people? So strange.

Narrator's accent doesn't fit
