The Remastered Edition…Because There’s Always More to the Story
Dave Grohl’s The Storyteller created a sensation when it was initially published, becoming a global bestseller and thrilling fans and critics alike. Readers came to the book for Dave’s heartfelt voice, his love of family and music, and the energy that pours from every page.
Dave’s is an extraordinary life made of up ordinary moments, and he tells stories just like he writes songs—from his soul. Whether recounting his time as kid in Toughskins in the Virginia suburbs, as a skinny teenager drumming his heart out for punk band Scream, living through the explosion and implosion of Nirvana, or hustling all the way around the world to escort his daughters to the Father/Daughter dance (only to be ignored as soon as his girls found their friends) The Storyteller is just like its author, as real as it gets.
To show his appreciation for his fans, and to celebrate his love of writing, this edition offers a wide variety of extra content, including:
- An essay on how Dave approaches creativity (Here’s a hint: you don’t have to think outside of the box. Just ignore it.)
- A series of prompts to jump start your creativity
- The story of when Dave first met Paul McCartney
- A collection of Dave’s curated playlists, giving a glimpse into some of the music he loves
The Storyteller has challenged what a music memoir can be. With this edition, the legacy continues.

To Dave the Greatest Musician In The World
I woke up to see the pre-order in my inbox. I immediately opened it and listened to the “Expanded” section. I’ve read the physical book and listened to your voice on Audible. I own 2 1st edition copies. My nephew, Alex, 3. He has the 2 autographed copies that I ran down my street to The Strand to buy, just for him. I told him to keep them somewhere safe and never crack the binding of the autograph copies. He has ruined the unsigned copy and everyone in his home in Evanston has read it. I say that with immense pride. I am the cool Aunt. I saw you on your book tour in NYC - proudly shouting “Evanston”. (It was the woman next to me, filled with liquor who took advantage of the rest of the hollering that night). It was the same day of the book release. It was the same day Alex tried to kill himself and was admitted to the hospital. Your book, that I also preordered, that day…to Evanston had been delivered. My brother brought the book to him hoping he would have permission to read it. Thankfully the answer was a resounding yes and Alex read it multiple times cover to cover in the blank grey halls of the pediatric hospital wing. Foo Fighters and of course you have been our bond for years. Our favorite song is “Learning to Walk Again” - strange but true as well as an unusual choice. I live in NYC and go to Foo Fighters concerts as often as I can. MSG (one of the greatest days of my life) Coney Island, Bridgeport. I even saw FF more than a decade ago in Central Park. I lived in Chicago and saw you on your amazing rock ‘n roll broken leg throne at Wrigley. Each time I take pics and video. I put him on FaceTime and we both sing and rock out. Foo Fighters is our forever bond. You made that happen.
This my long version of a thank you from both me and Alex. I’m proud to say he is studying Journalism at a fantastic university. He is doing great. We, from afar, never take our ears off of each other. We talk text and FT. When I see Foos at CitiField in 202 days he will be with me. Somehow, someway he will be there. Thank you always. With sincere gratitude Everlong.
