Publisher's Summary
The USA Today best seller.
Inspired by a true story...
Now a major motion picture starring Samantha Bond, Emily Berrington and Ben Lloyd-Hughes.
A gripping debut psychological thriller about the dark secrets in a perfect marriage. For fans of Shari Lapena.
I ended my marriage for a man who didn’t exist....
I have everything money can buy. I’m a good wife, but sometimes I feel trapped. And when I start an affair with a stranger called Ewan, my life changes in ways I can’t begin to understand.
Because Ewan breaks apart my marriage piece by piece and then he just disappears. He uses a fake name and leaves no trace behind—it’s like he doesn’t even exist.
Someone did this to me and now they’re waiting for me to unravel, watching my every move. I can’t trust anyone, not even myself—not even the people I love.
What the critics say
"Dark, twisty and enthralling. A commanding new voice in suspense writing." (Paul Finch)
"Samantha Lee Howe cleverly wrongfoots the reader and does so again and again. A fascinating study in lies, evasions and deceptions." (Abbie Frost)
"Samantha Lee Howe does a great job of painting a picture of a woman who no longer knows who to trust or what is real; sinister and thought provoking." (Jackie Kabler)

Yuck
The main character is horribly stupid and one dimensional and I legitimately hated her more than the villain. I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Held onto every word!
Recently dowloaded this and listened to it non-stop on my round-trip drive to and from Boston over the weekend. It got me hooked from the start. I liked the pace of the book where things happen and develop over a longer timespan. If you like the psychological thriller/marriage type of books, you won't be disappointed!

Wow!…
This book is a bit of a slow burn, which is a good thing. Very well written in the style of Daphne D. , also a good thing.
This story is dark and twisted as this genre should be.
The entire reason you’re aware there’s something evil going on even if the players are being kind and acting normally. I love that.
This story takes place in present day but has an old British thriller style.
The narration is dark and excellent as well as the writing. Well done, well done!

Mixed Feelings. 3.75 out of 5 If I Could
NO SPOILERS! The story was interesting and had me trying to sort out who was bad. That was the good part. I just don’t like stories about weak women and she never evolves. The whole time I listened I’m annoyed with her allowing people to take a dump on her over and over. It was a good but unbelievable.
So if that stuff doesn’t bother you, it’s a good listen. The narrator is also excellent.

Magnificent and original storyline!
I loved almost all of this fast-paced psychological thriller. A married woman has an affair and is about to leave her controlling husband for a happier life. Then the lover--and all evidence of their affair--just disappears. Wow, this is way better than yet another tale about a kidnapped child! I couldn't wait to find out what was really going on. I did think that the ending was a little drawn out, with too much time devoted to explanations. But what an exciting ride! Overall rating: 4.5 stars rounded up.
This is definitely an author I want to follow.

Great story!!
Best book I’ve read in awhile. Loved the characters, the setting and couldn’t figure out the ending which is hard to find these days. Not at all predictable.

Wasn’t expecting it to be so good!
Wow!! What a great book. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist!!! Actually, many twists!!! Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it was a little far fetched but overall, it was amazing!!!

One day listen
Kept me engaged, twisty, unexpected! Worth it! The author’s style and switching between points of view flows easily, narrators are perfect too.

This is one unrivaled British psychological thriller!
I had been having a problem finding just the right audiobook in my library. Eventually, I found this hidden gem and paid $9.93. I save my treasured credits for pricier books. Author Samantha Lee Howe pens a classic, suspenseful and complexellent mystery that gripped me from the very beginning and never let go. She interweaves a plot with beautifully creepy surroundings, suspicious characters, family members, twisty turns and what can only be described as a rare wow factor. Who can be trusted? Love? Hate? You’ll be surprised. I know I was taken aback. I didn’t figure it out until the shocking jaw-dropping ending. Narrated by Jess Nesling, her vocal expertise brings this story to vivid life. I do so love my British chillers and this one is one of the best in my vast Audible library. The unexpected ending had me reeling. Every character is presented to perfection. Howe and Nesling make a perfect pair and I look forward to many more from these two talented and accomplished women. Highly recommended. Epic, I say! Epic!
