À propos de cet audio

This highly anticipated follow-up to The Will of the Many—one of 2023’s most lauded and best-selling fantasy novels—follows Vis as he grapples with a dangerous secret that could unravel history across alternate dimensions.

Omne trium perfectum

The Hierarchy still call me Vis Telimus. Still hail me as Catenicus. They still, as one, believe they know who I am.

But with all that has happened—with what I fear is coming—I am not sure it matters anymore.

I am no longer one. I won the Iudicium and lost everything—and now, impossibly, the ancient device beyond the Labyrinth has replicated me across three separate worlds. A different version of myself in each of Obiteum, Luceum, and Res. Three different bodies, three different lives. I have to hide; fight; play politics. I have to train; trust; lie. I have to kill; heal; prove myself again, and again, and again.

I am loved, and hated, and entirely alone.

Above all, though, I need to find answers before it’s too late. To understand the nature of what has happened to me and why.

I need to find a way to stop the coming Cataclysm, because if all I have learned is true, I may be the only one who can.

The story is intriguing but I found myself having a hard time keeping the characters and worlds sorted. I still don't think I really understood the whole last part.

Great world building, too many Characters

I was pleasantly surprised how well written and easy to follow the three separate stories were. I thought I would be confused on what version of Diego’s story is being told, but it wasn’t. Even without being told which version is being represented, it was easy to differentiate. Each story was a fascinating listen and I’m excited for book 3.

Extremely captivating

If you liked the first book, you will love the second! The story gets you hooked and wanting more following Vis through the 3 worlds. I see lots of parallels and metaphors between these worlds and our society. The performance from the narrator is amazing too. Love the emphasis and how he says “rotting gods!”. Wholly recommend this one, but be sure to start with the first book otherwise you will be lost.

Bravo on the sequel! Can’t wait for the 3rd!

Performance is really good, as in the last book.

The other reviews are right, moving to three narratives is a bold choice. Initially I found myself disliking the stories outside the continuation of the original, but by the end I was as excited to return to one of the new paths as I was disappointed to leave the last.

Lots to unpack, plenty to rediscover on subsequent listens. Over all well done and very cool.

The largest detractor is the same as in the first of the series. *Venturing into semi light spoilers*, so stop here if you care. Our protagonist(s?) have way too much plot armor. Obviously they need to survive from one set piece to another, but after multiple hours of this I find myself wondering, "what new surprise will save them this time?"

*Slightly heavier spoilers here*
That is remedied by key losses, some really unexpected and painful. While the main character has iron-clad plot armor, no one else feels safe. Very Rick Grimes, you know no one is safe, but you also know for sure one person is.

Really looking forwards to the next one, though I hope this is a trilogy- not sure the tale has legs for much more.

Hard to get into, but worthwhile

When I started WOTM, I was very put off by many poor reviews for its recent sequel, this book, but after completing it, I loved it. My only gripe is one perspective (O) dragged much more than the others, but it was necessary for giving us a base knowledge, and largely those chapters didn’t didn’t hold that long whilst the other perspectives were hitting strides. Loved the inclusion of the other settings, the Roman aesthetic was a pretty cool setting but adding the other two was very intriguing.

Great follow up to the WOTM
