Publisher's Summary

The companion novel to Rin Chupeco's The Girl from the Well, which Kirkus called a "Stephen King-like horror story".

After barely escaping the evil spirit that tried to destroy his soul, Tark vows to spend his life protecting the innocent. So when his mentor goes missing on a ghost-hunting expedition, Tark and Okiku join the search. But the Suicide Forest has seduced thousands of people to their deaths over the centuries and is thick with their sorrows.

With time running out and danger at every turn, Tark will either become a hero - or die trying.

Solid second story

It’s hard to make a good sequel, but this one does a great job…and uses a different narrator and a different overall feel, to boot. Well done.

Strangely Enjoyable

Enjoyed the characters, story, and the mix of history and fiction. Somehow, it is tragically heroic, haunting, and heartwarming.

Mostly Ghostly

Ghost romance got kinda weird towards the end, but I'd still ship it.
10/10.

Absolutely beautiful

I cannot explain how connected I am to this story. I cried so hard, that had I been reading, I would not have been able to see.

Thank you for their love story.

The Suffering

This novel was much more pulled together than its predecessor. The different MC had a much stronger voice and characterisation and the performer did a better job as well, his Okiku came through much stronger and scarier, and Tark's angsty teen voice was very true to the character.
The plot and main action was much more coherent and compelling too, and I actually had to pause things one evening because listening to it in my dark bedroom made me too nervous about house noises and I needed to be up early. Genuinely love when that happens.
Looking forward to enjoying more books by the author.
