Publisher's Summary

When seven murder victims are found in a small town, the homicide investigation shakes a small-town sheriff to her core in James Patterson's tense thriller.

Once a luxurious Southern getaway on a rustic lake, then reduced to a dilapidated crash pad, the Summer House is now the grisly scene of a nighttime mass murder. Eyewitnesses point to four Army Rangers - known as the Night Ninjas - recently returned from Afghanistan.

To ensure that justice is done, the Army sends Major Jeremiah Cook, a veteran and former NYPD cop, to investigate. But the major and his elite team arrive in sweltering Georgia with no idea their grim jobs will be made exponentially more challenging by local law enforcement, who resists the Army's intrusion and stonewall them at every turn.

As Cook and his squad struggle to uncover the truth behind the condemning evidence, the pieces just won't fit - and forces are rallying to make certain damning secrets die alongside the victims in the murder house. With his own people in the cross-hairs, Cook takes a desperate gamble to find answers - even if it means returning to a hell of his own worst nightmares....

A tough listen

Overall story good, but too many players for an audible book. In my view a better read than a listen. The overdone accents were also tough to listen to for 11 hours.

Brilliant story and performance.

As the story unfolded I found myself eagerly anticipating every chapter. The narration was very well done and greatly added to the story.

Struggled to finish

No action, kinda boring and to fake. usually Patterson's books keep me on the edge and needing to keep reading or listening. not this one.

Story kept cutting out and I would have to restart it.

Enjoyed the novel very much. The only problem I had was the volume kept stopping on a regular basis and I’d have to wait 30 seconds to a minute for it to come back on not a good pleasant read at that point.

Formulaic and predictable

I was really hoping I'd like this more than I did. I thought the narrator did a great job but the story was predictable and the drama surrounding the big reveal was incredibly boring.

Boring

Very slow boring book. 3/4 of the book is army personnel interviewing people. Wouldn't recommend.

Great story!

The story was very well written. The speaker did a very good job with the different voices. I was hooked until the end! I see this type of story playing out into a movie.
