Publisher's Summary

Coming home dredges up deeply buried secrets in The Survivors, a thrilling mystery by New York Times best-selling author Jane Harper.

Kieran Elliott's life changed forever on the day a reckless mistake led to devastating consequences.

The guilt that still haunts him resurfaces during a visit with his young family to the small coastal community he once called home.

Kieran's parents are struggling in a town where fortunes are forged by the sea. Between them all is his absent brother, Finn.

When a body is discovered on the beach, long-held secrets threaten to emerge. A sunken wreck, a missing girl, and questions that have never washed away....

3.5 stars

Jane Harper is very quickly becoming one of my favorite authors given the fact that I have a love for books set in Australia. I've read all of her books inside of this year, and this one was as enjoyable as the others if not a little bit of a slower more relaxed pace. Nonetheless, with an excellent performance yet again by Stephen Shanahan the story was very enjoyable to listen to. It transported me to a place and climate, with characters every bit as intriguing as the atmosphere they exist in.

My one criticism is that unlike her previous works, this piece end rather abruptly, so be warned.

Riveting Read

The pace of this story never stalled and I loved all the twists and turns as along the way. I had no idea who the culprit was til the very end. Will look for more of her books.

Not enough life in the narration

The reading of the story is too monotone. it was really hard to stay focused. I'm not sure if the story would have been better if there was more life in the reader's voice or if the story was just written in an uninteresting way. The story had potential, but for me it didn't deliver in captivating way.

A great story

As always, the characters developed in this book are deep and very human. The reader gets to see and feel the events through the lens of the character’s pain, guilt, joy and hope. I usually can guess the endings of some books but so far I haven’t with Jane Harper’s novels. This is one I’d highly recommend if you like a story with lots of interesting relationships and some great twists to the reader’s expectations. Enjoy!! I did!!

Not the best

Super not great book - slow - too many characters - just wasn’t great - based off reviews I was shocked how not great it was
