Margaret Atwood's dystopian masterpiece, The Handmaid's Tale, has become a modern classic—and now she brings the iconic story to a dramatic conclusion in this riveting sequel.

More than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results.

Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third voice: a woman who wields power through the ruthless accumulation and deployment of secrets.

As Atwood unfolds The Testaments, she opens up the innermost workings of Gilead as each woman is forced to come to terms with who she is, and how far she will go for what she believes.

I have waited almost 3 decades for answers about The Handmaid’s Tale and this book provides those answers and many more. So abundant are the descriptions of life within Gilead that I feel like it is a place I have visited. I appreciate that the book was divided among several characters and their narrators so we could see a more complete picture of the events taking place. I did not anticipate enjoying Aunt Lydia as one of those characters, but the story could never have unfolded properly without her perspective. The performance of Ann Dowd made the character come to life and I now think of Aunt Lydia in a whole new light.

The Testaments is an outstanding book, and the audio version is perfectly narrated. Thank you Margaret Atwood for returning to this universe to give us another glimpse.

Brilliant!

I've been listening to these in the car, I had to do a re-take of a bunch of the chapters as I get distracted but really cool to know the back stories. I'll probably listen to the whole thing a couple times to take it all in. Seems like another gem from Atwood.

Overall quite a nice listen

I finished this book so fast, as I was hungry to find out the destiny of these characters. Would June ever be reunited with her daughters? It was interesting to learn about how the Aunts were created and turned against their fellow women and I was so happy to learn that Aunt Lidia was so much more that she appeared. I’m happy with the way the book concluded and I’m grateful for my ability to read (listen to) it. Scary how much of these books has actually happened in the past.

Captivating story!

So good! Performance was great, especially Ann Dowd. Margaret Atwood never fails to write a story that’s engages right away.

Loved it

I loved every minute of this book. The narration is (mostly) excellent... Bryce Dallas Howard is a little clunky, but Ann Dowd and Mae Whitman MORE than make up for it. The story is wonderful! There are twists and turns, intrigue and darkness. The revelations wont blow your mind, but it's a great ride.

Get this book.

While not as gripping as Handmaid's Tale, the story was tense and compelling. Performances were solid and I am happy to lay Gilead to rest at last.

Satisfying conclusion to a harrowing tale

Once I started listening, I couldn't stop. I thought the style it was written in, and the overall plot, to be even better than The Handmaid's Tale. Definitely recommend!!

Absolutely Fantastic!

Absolutely loved this book. I didn’t want it to end! Great follow up to the handmaid’s tale and gives a lot more information about Gilead society from different perspectives.

Amazing read!

If you enjoyed reading Handmaids Tale, or watching it, then this is the perfect piece of literature for you. This is the answer to all the questions:
Was Mayday ever successful in destroying Gilliad?
Was June ever successful in reuniting with Hannah?
Does June ever escape?
And what ends up happening to the baby, Nicole? Does Gilliad end up getting her back?

And wait until you see what old Aunt Lydia is up to!!!

Another example of Atwood’s brilliance!!
